Any advice would help.

hey what's up people. got a 2012 mustang. i'm not a big car wiz, but i have been looking into adding performance parts under the hood. i'm pretty much satisfied w/the outside appearance for now. the only thing i possibly thought about doing were adding some aftermarket tires (19's or 20's) and rims. don't know yet though. anyway... i wanted to start off w/a tuner. should that be what i start off with? or a CAI? both? or what? i'd appreciate any input good or bad.Click image for larger version

Try to put this without coming off as a ***, stay away from bama.

Go with lund, MPT or Shaun at AED.

Hey Rap will Shaun tune bolt-on 3.7's? Think he'd be a better choice than MPT? MPT is honestly the same as my Bama 93 race just firmer shifts that make it "feel faster".

Yes he will. Just don't tell him you were previously tuned by bama. I have seen him turn people down bc of that.

I will make sure not too... should I tell him I was tuned by MPT or no? I have no experience with AED I haven't seen any 3.7 guys tuned by him... think he will be a better choice than MPT?

Best "bang for your buck" and the two biggest performance mod's to get out of the way. Your car will feel like a totally different machine.

really? I'm pretty sure he does tune for the 3.7's, but don't hold me to it I'm not a 100% as I never checked into it.
I know lund does, and honestly I would go with him.

I just know of a few 5.0 guys who got turned down by him bc of bama

Only time I ran a email tune was lund, back when I first bought my car, ordered the tune that night as soon as I got home.

Then swapped to a dyno tune once the mods started.

I was going to go with Lund after MPT really didn't impress me.... everyone swore by MPT but they were the same as Bama and I kinda wish I didn't spend $75 on them. Not a lot of $ but for what I got... eh. W.e.
I know Lund is $200 and I've heard some people say MPT is superior to Lund's on the 3.7 with bolt-ons. I will do some more research and check it out. Maybe the MPT really is as fast as I can get non-dyno tuned.... we will see when the headers come. Then I will be full bolt-on besides TB (which I will not be getting, don't see a point in it) and maybe go hi-flow cat's since I need them in NY.

Blah Blah Blah

I bought the Bama tune for my car first, then loaded the Street 87 tune and really liked it over the stock tune.

Added the Airaid CAI and updated my BAMA tunes to reflect the new CAI and loaded the Performance 89 tune and I like that.

My car with CAI and 89 tune really sounds good when I get my foot into the pedal like when passing on the interstate or hitting the on ramp. Around town the car is more responsive when starting from a stop.

Most of us would not know the difference in tunes unless one bite us on the butt.

It appears we have a bunch of race car drivers hiding behind key boards here so take the advice with a grain of salt.

AM & BAMA have excellent service, monitor this page, stand behind their product.

My car is a weekend driver and I am long past pimples. Just my thoughts

You can also look towards Steeda.

We have done many tunes.

It depends on what you want to spend up front ... you can do the tune first & then do the CAI ... we have tunes for life. If you have the funds ... then doing them at the same time is great power adder. We have seen gains of up to 20hp and 30ft/lbs of torque!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

TJ

AED is not doing 3.7's.

Also since Gus' s departure Steeda has been lacking.

4.10 gears + lower control arm + lund racing tune for me!

If your objective is to get the best/fastest run, don't go for 20s.

Goodluck on the mods!

I'd say stick with MPT till you're modding your car - performance wise. Chances are you will like your MPT tune with all above parameters incorporated into it.

Was voting for MPT but when I got the revised tune from jon lund, it is half a second (or more) faster than MPT.

MPT feels a little different though because of the race option (aggressive shifting). But as they said, it may be aggressive but it doesn't mean that you are getting more power.

I both have MPT & Lund racing tunes. My vote goes to lund racing for now.

Personally, I would do the wheels and tires first. Then perhaps an Axle back exhaust if it still has the factory one.

Your car looks really good now and those items would only add to the head turning factor.
