Hawk HPS brake pads

So I just got a pair of rear Hawk HPS brake pads in the mail from American Muscle. Gonna swap a full GT brake assembly with these pads onto my car.
Never done anything like this so it will be interesting! Any tips? Gonna do it the same time as lowering my car.
Potential problem with the brakes.... The box came all smashed up and the inside packaging is ripped and there is red lubricant or fluid all over everything.... Doesn't look good. Not too happy about that. Will I need more lubricant? Could anything be wrong with the brake pads because it looks like someone tossed the package down a flight of cement stairs repeatedly.... It's pretty bad.

The box literally fell apart in my hands when I picked it up off my stoop....

i would call AM and tell them about it. looks like the postage carrier effed those puppies up. Guess they could have separated the lube from the pads with a piece of cardboard also.

They're pretty dinged up on the sides....
There was just no packaging on the sides looked like it had been torn off....

I was so excited for them too.
I hope yours came in a lot better shape Soccer!
I'm excited to get the GT brakes with these babies on if I can get a replacement pair of pads sent out... should be a real difference!!!

Sent 1 of the AM guys a PM, hopefully there is something they can do.
I just don't feel safe putting brake pads that came in this condition on my car.... are my fears unfounded? First time doing a brake job myself.

Hey! Well that's not good at all! Keep an eye on your email. I'm sending a few things over. While the pads are likely okay I don't want you to get messy. I'm going to head down to our warehouse and get you a new set pulled and shipped! Check your PM's as well!

Thank you very much for the quick response Alex. First time doing brakes myself so wasn't sure if they were ok or not, not even sure what to check. I will wash the red gunk all off it unless you don't want me too haha.

And yes nate, Alex is the best!

I wish mine came like that! lol I had maybe 1 side of the blue box.
Guess yours wasn't chosen by the UPS football team to use as a practice ball
I'm excited for my replacement pair to come. I have heard amazing things about the HPS

Haha, I've had pretty good luck with UPS in my area. I so wish I could install them with my new rotors but have to wait until my other pads come in.

Anytime! However you can have it packaged is fine with us. Maybe it was the heat that caused the packet to go, maybe it was UPS-Either way I wouldn't install them on my own car. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'm here to help!

Nate-it's the best! I get to talk cars all day long and help people that share my same passion!

Sid-I packed grabbers order personally, had the pads wrapped in bubble wrap, put the grease in a separate bag, AND left a hand written note! Rest assured they're in great shape!

Thanks so much Alex! We really appreciate you taking care of our orders so well. My whole family's first choice is AM whenever we have anything to buy, mostly because of the level of service that you personally have shown us...

Sid - LMFAO best movie ever. That is exactly what UPS did to my order, the Office style

You're very welcome! We rely heavily on UPS and every now and then there's a small slip up. As always don't hesitate to let me know if I can help and if there's ever something that we need to hear about immediately shoot us a call and our customer service team will get you squared away!

Tips: Don't touch the friction surface of the brake pads. Buy brake cleaner to clean off the rotors. Buy high temp lithium grease (rated to 3000 deg) to lubricate the calipers and hardware. Watch some you tube videos on how to do it.

Are you just changing pads or the GT calipers as well? If it's just pads, it's really simple. I'm not sure what lubricant comes with the pads but I use SylGlyde, you can find it just about anywhere.

You don't want to use anything oil or petroleum based because you'll need to lubricate the slider pins and bushings. Oil based lubes will swell the rubber bushing and make it lock.

Make sure to lube the back of the pads, slider pins, and replace the metal shims and lube those. Just do NOT put lube on the contact face of the pads or the rotors.

For the back, you may or may not need to compress the pistons, if so grab the tool from an auto parts store and make sure your ebrake is off.

I'm changing to everything GT I bought from roush, caliper, rotors, the entire brake assembly. These bad boys are beefy and will be a huge improvement with the hawk pads

Then you'll also need a brake bleeder, some dot 3 fluid and something to contain the bled fluid. When you're changing out calipers it's a whole new ballgame.

Dang. I strongly advise you find a buddy who has done brakes before to work with you on this. I did brakes once several years ago with my dad on my first car, a 2000 Mercury Mystique. It's a tough job. Also you are in NY so I'm sure you have a good amount of corrosion to break through, be prepared to flex your muscles. I'm actually gonna do a brake job this weekend probably, on my sister's car.

Welp... the other part of my order didn't come today either (weird since I usually get things the next day) and when I went to check the status of them it says "out for delivery"...... but in Lexington Kentucky. I live in NY.....
Looks like someone else is getting my order?

Looks like it sat in NJ and then they decided to send it down to KY...
This has not been a good order for me.
Looks like someone is getting free stuff. Maybe I'll get their stuff? Hope it's something good I'll take a Procharger... LOL

AM is sending out a new set of bulbs today for me! Don't know where they are ending up in KY or if I'll ever get the originals lol.
New brake pads arrived today thanks to Alex!

Even when there is a problem (and these were both by the shippers, UPS and USPS, NOT AM), AM fixes it immediately.

This is why I recommend them first for anyone's mustang needs!
