Opinions Please

I am a new member and a new Mustang owner. Finally I can afford the insurance. Although I'd loved them for years, I never owned one. Middle age and kids out of the house now so I bought a new toy

Its a base V6 since I commute 100 miles a day, I need the better mileage. Happy with it so far, but of course I can't leave it alone.

So far just simple mods:

Hardwired Esort Redline with Escort Live on a custom visor bracket. Keeps the Leos from noticing.
SiriusXM hardwired and mounted on the dome light
MMD 1/4 Window Louvers
VentVisors
Black PlastiDip stock rims.

To be added:
GT/CS Spoiler (Black)
Possibly a hood scoop - Not sure which one.
Tri bar side pony emblems
Bama Tuner
Roush Axle-Back Exhaust
AFE Dry Drop in replacement air filter or CAI - Haven't decided yet

Since this is my daily driver and I commute 100 miles a day, I'll probably keep the stock wheels and A/S radials. I'll be getting a second set of wheels and studded snows.

Anyways - Wanted opinions and just saying hi.

Absolutely negligible in both maybe an extra mpg, OP, if your going to buy a CAI, buy it for looks and sound, don't expect anything else. Now a tune( which can void warranty if your engine blows and it's traced to the tune) and the CAI, then it's fine.

Tuner for sure. ive done the following mods: airraid intake, bbk shorty headers, aluminum one piece driveshaft, and bama tuner. tuner was the best bang for the buck in my opinion.

Another nice mod which you would definitely benefit from, is the starkey lower bumper fog light kit or GT grille fog light kit.

With all the driving you do, this is a good safety mod. I did the lower bumper kit and love it.

Good luck and welcome to the show!

Might want to think about some Short Tube headers also, leaves all the stock emissions in place and gives the 3.7 a kick in the lower to mid range where it really needs it.
I commute about 90 miles a day with mine and still run the 19 inch wheels with summer only tires and have a set of A/S for winter (Tennessee is not all that snowy).

Thanks..Yeah, I had thought about this. I'll research a bit more. I had thought of a billet grill with a set of Hella 500's I have laying around mounted behind the grill but that might be too much work fabricating brackets and I would still need the wiring harness. I already have the switch since I had to have the auto headlights. I'll check out the Starkey lower valance kit.

And the list keeps getting longer.

Here in upstate NY, and considering where I live...studded snows might not even do it for me. I do have a 4x4 for the bad days but commuting in that is no fun.

Next Upgrade

So its time for my next upgrade.

Originally, although it may seem a bit corny, I was going for a theme...
Black'N Bruiser. Blue car with black accents.

I installed the black 1/4 panel louvers and had planned to install a black spoiler and possibly hood scoop.

What do you all think? Would it be a bit Ricey? I'm not looking for corny.
Would I be better off with a blue spoiler and hood scoop?? Or black? The window louvers are staying as black.

Also..I'm leaning towards the MMD Ducktail spoiler. ANy opinions on which spoiler would look best?

I know...I'm the one who has to live with it and it's my car. I don't want to do it twice nor have any regrets.

Thanks

That looks great on your car. Subtle contrast. I like it. Is it the photo or is it also Matte?

Is the spoiler on your car glossy or flat black?

The black 1/4 louvers don't look bad at all. IMO, black spoiler and scoop will compliment the car nicely. That's just me though don't know what others might think about this. Can't give you an opinion on what kind of spoiler since I'm undecided which one I want lol

So I ended up going with the GT500 spoiler.
I'm a bit disappointed with American Muscle but I have yet to contact them.
The only instructions included are for replacing a factory spoiler. I figured it out. I would have preferred instructions but I was able to figure out what the strips and foam pads were for. It didn't take long at all. It would be good to include an extra M6 screw and washer as it is very easy to drop one down inside the trunk lid with no chance of retriving it. I dropped two of the four, fat fingers. A trip to the hardware store and all is well.

I did not notice until installed, but the paint job on the top rear section of the spoiler is full of bubbles / divets. I have taken a few pictures, but they are hard to capture. You have to zoom in on the image.

My primary concern however is since this was installed on a car without a factory spoiler, I can not remove it to send back. I'm not going to drive around with holes in my trunk especially since it I bet if I did, it would rain.

What do you think of the overall look?

I would send that back I'm sure that AM would send you a new spoiler immediately. PM AMAlexLazarus on here and show him the pics . I would not have installed it though in that condition.... Did you just not check it before installing?

The first picture is one area of the defect. You really can't see that? Open the image and crop/zoom in. It will be obvious then.

I did check, but in bright sunlight, I missed it. Apparently AM missed them also.
It wasn't until installed and the sky became overcast and I was waxing it, that it stuck out. It actually has the bubbles in three spots on that same lip. The photo is of only one area. I'll send him a PM, but I did start the RMA process with AM via email. Too late for a response this week I'm sure.

Thanks

I like the look of the painted spoiler. Its a shame that the paint job isn't so hot. Those bubbles are huge and I'm pretty shocked they made it past QC.

Couple quick questions on your plastidipped stock rims. How did you prep the rims? How many coats did you use? Approximately how much time did you leave between coats? How is it holding up? How do you clean the dipped wheels?

I spend a ton of time cleaning my rims..... I'm thinking matte black dipped rims might hide some brake dust but still protect the actual rim. I'd love it if the dipped rims would make my job a little easier. Thoughts?

Nice ride by the way!

We will have to wait and see how AM handles it. Ideally, they should send me a new one, I can swap them out and then provide them with images of it cut up in pieces or something.

The wheels are easy to do. I used about 3.75 cans. There are 5 coats, and they are holding up great, but its only been a month or so. I used regular old windex and almost a whole roll of paper towels to prep them. Time between coats was about ten minutes. I did remove the wheels from the car, and after the last coat, I waited about 45 minutes before peeling the dip off the center caps, which I should have just removed before spraying. I have yet to specifically clean the wheels. I have detailed the car and washed the car since then and I just hose off the wheels. I don't see much brake dust, but I may order a bottle of BDP cleaner from dipyourcar.com https://www.dipyourcar.com/brake-dust-professional.html. It's expensive but I don't think I would use it that much. The real test will be this winter since I'm in upstate NY. Salt NY

Thanks..Yeah - I like it. I wasn't sure how it would be received by the community but in the end, it's all about what I like anyways.

Thanks for the info Izzyman. Sounds pretty easy...... might give it a shot. I'd really like some new rims but I'm looking at a few other mods first. I'm thinking that dipping the rims black would work until I can swing some new ones.

IzzyMan!!

Sorry about the delay and to see this! That's no good at all and I have no idea how this managed to leave our paint shop and make its way over to our warehouse. We prep, paint, package and ship these and I'm not sure how this managed to slip through quality control.

Rest assured I'm not going to have you rolling around with no spoiler and I'm going to personally pick and package your replacement for you. I'm going to shoot a couple pictures as well along the way and have them posted here for you so you can see what you're getting! I'll see to it that your comments about the hardware are forwarded to the right team as well because I think it's a great idea have extra included. I can't count how many times I've picked up something from Ikea and have been short hardware!

Let me know what kind of damage you incurred at the hardware store and I'll have that refunded back to your card first thing Monday morning! Let me know if there's anything else i can lend a hand with in the meantime or if you have any questions and I'm here to help!

Thanks Alex!
I had no doubt you'd make things good, I was just worried about the logistics.
From what I've read on this forum, AM and you specifically take good care of its customers.

Anytime! No worries at all, you're in good hands! The logistical side is the fun part for me. As I said I'll get you a shot of your replacement prior to shipping. I'll make sure it's heavily packed so there aren't any issues while in transit. We definitely take care of our customers as well and we hate to hear about things like this happening, especially over the weekend when we should be in the garage (Or parking lot in my case )

Let me know if anything in the meantime!

Alex
