Insurance

Recently I was involved in an accident that was the other persons fault now I was wondering since say my car was worth 16k but after the accident it's now only worth 12k can I make the other insurance company write me a check for depreciated value? If anyone knows about this or has any experience with this any help is appreciated!

I met with my insurance agent & had coverage value adjusted. Blue Book showed a value of $2,000.00, had it insured for my investments at $10,000.00

I don't think so but i cant say for sure. It is a topic Mustang owners discuss regularly.
it is a damn shame, i don't need to say it, we all know it sucks. We pay into insurance, use it, your dropped or rates go up, and your car isnt protected for depreciation.
I was hit one time from behind, shop did an excellent job with repair, but dealerships are great at detecting repairs to body and your car ends up worth nothing at trade in or sale.

I think they will pay blue book. You might have to sue for the rest. It's a crappy situation but it might be a battle. Just don't settle, hold out until you get what you think you deserve.

Oh yeah, don't sign anything without fully understanding what it is.

In some states you can file a diminished value claim, where the insurance company pays for the difference in value before and after the wreck. I was rear-ended in a mazda I had a few years ago with only 900 miles on it. Car was in the shop for almost 2 months. The repairs were covered and I received a 4-5,000 check for the diminished value. I used some 3rd party company I found online to file the claim, I think they were based out of Oregon. It cost a few hundred dollars through them but it was worth it.

Yes! That's what I'm talking about! I'll have to look into that

How bad was the wreck and was this the 2014 in your sig? I think the hardest part would be proving that the accident actually depreciated the cars value by 20%. Unless the car was totaled and has a rebuilt title I just think it would be impossible to prove my car is worth 16k today but since you hit me and it had a new bumper put on it I could only sell it for 12.

Iv been looking it up and I have a great chance of getting 5-6k for depreciated value. Especially since it did 8.5k worth of damage

I think I used a company that is now at autoloss.com, they may have been under a different name back then. I'm not 100 percent sure though it's been 4 or 5 years.

This happened to a friend of mine. The other driver was covered by State Farm and State Farm compensated my friend for the loss of value to his car as well as the damages.
