3.73 Gears, MPG?

To all out there with 3:73s, what kind of gas mileage do you get in city and highway seperate? Just curious as to what to expect, not really concerned about getting less mpg and spending more money to go faster.

I'll tell you this my gas milage stayed the same... if anything lost one combine mpg.... well worth it you won't feel the gas mileage difference a lot unless all you do is highway and even then it is not that much less

I get 25mpg consistently with 3.73 gears. I changed the ring and pinion about a year and a half ago.

Another thing to consider the the term highway means nothing unless speeds are given. I only have 2.73's but if I go 60-65 on the highway I'll get 32-35 MPG but if I go 80 I'll get 26-27. So it really depends what speeds you travel on the highway.

I can't seem to get anywhere near the high 20's, the best I can average highway is about 25. What I have notice is that if the freeway is on a slope I notice the mpg meter goes up, but that's only for a min at the most, then at a regular straight away it's about 23-24 going about 75. I get so jealous when I see you guys talking about your average mpg lol

I think you are relying on the on board mileage readout. My readout says 23.5 but my calculated mileage is over 25. Use a log to understand your actual mileage. There are also some good apps available like "Fuel Buddy".

I was impressed with the MPG number I was hearing about on the forums and the window sticker seemed to back it up. I bought a 2012 V6, performance pack ( so 3:31 and 19's) and I don't get anywhere close to the advertised numbers. Averaging 17-18mpg ... if I get on a long run in 6th gear 80-85mph it will bump up to around 20- 20.5 mpg. What's the difference ( or could be wrong) with my car???

The computer in your car does not actually measure fuel consumption. It uses a logarithm. If the parameters are incorrect, so will be the mileage. Use a log to track actual mileage. Those are V8 numbers. If that is actual you need to go back to the dealer and get your other 2 cylinders.

Why would they do that?? My last boat had twin V8's and they had extremely actuate fuel management. Based I believe off the injectors - it was to the gallon on a 140 gallon tank ( but with the boat 2mpg was good- hit the throttles and you're down to .5mpg!). If the computer knows how much fuel the engines using and the speed of the car... it should be easy to have precise numbers. Maybe this is an area for the "tuners" to get into.

GPH and total fuel used. When I would refuel, I would reset the Total Fuel Used- it was very accurate. Because a car has a very accurate speed reading ( boats don't) and the computer knows ( or could) fuel use... and a computer can remember things ( like speed changes) - I just see why it's not spot on accurate in these modern Mustangs.
