Parts upgrade help

I finally decided to get 3 things from AM.

* 1 Piece Aluminum Driveshaft
* Barton Short Shifter with Kit
* 3.73 Ford Racing Gear with Kit

I was thinking about getting a CAI and Catback Exhaust system but here in California we do have to get a smog every 2 years and i dont want to be switching parts back to stock.

Anyway, for those 3 parts mentioned above will i get additional HP gains? Am I expecting a huge gain but maybe some? is this a good upgrade combination is there a better route in doing upgrades?

Thank you,

Why would you gain horsepower with any of those? You will accelerate faster but no horsepower gain. You will however lose less horsepower between the crank and wheels though

That's what i was thinking, the lighter the part the more horsepower will be freed up?

The only thing that is helping is the driveshaft loses less horsepower than the stock one. Lighter means faster typically not more horsepower. You should notice a pretty good difference with that stuff combined

Do you know of any upgrades that would make the acceleration faster / add more hp without replacing the exhaust/headers/air intake parts? I forgot about the lightweight flywheel.

Is your car tuned or you running stock ford tune? -if not, tune is your friend here to gain HP. Also, you're gonna it to recalibrate your speedo anyway. Unless you're getting it done from dealership.

As for CAI, you dont need one unless you're going FI. Stock air box flows quite well, just swap out stock filter from air box with a K&N drop in filter and you should be golden. There's an active thread comparing this setup with a CAI, give it a read.

Yes my car is running stock ford tune. The only reason why i left out the tune option is because i thought a CAI is required. Ill read the thread you mentioned and get more info about it.

No you don't need a cai for tune. A tune would actually improve it a lot

Should probably note that if you get the 3.73s then you might as well just go ahead and get a tuner anyways because your speedo will be off and you can use it to fix it. Unless of course you adjust your wheel size to try and compensate. Also, before your inspection you'll probably want to return to the stock tune depending on which kind of tune you are running.

It's not that they know it's a custom tune, it's what the tune does to the car. For instance, it might disable your O2 sensors or something, which would make your car fail emissions testing. The testers won't know why they aren't working on your car though.

22 MPG combined yeah? Cause I am currently 19.7 City Drive. I am leaning towards getting a tuner. BTW, i am filling my tank with 91 Octane does it matter if i have Ford stock tune?

Catbacks are smog legal in CA. It's the mid pipe that can cause problems with the emissions testing.
You probably won't see much of a power gain from it but your car will sound faster...

I noticed a pretty decent gain with my aftermarket catback. That bottleneck in the stock over-axle pipes is killer.

But i dunno, i think i got a factory freak. My 2.73s with stock all season tires can spin on dry dustless asphalt without havin dumpin the clutch

Emissions here in toronto canada sound pretty much the same as cali New cars dont need a drive clean test for their first 5 years tho, then its every 2 years

speaking of tuners, i just read a thread here about SCT Tuner with BAMA tunes killing your car. Did you have any issues when you tuned your car?
