At the track!

I'm at Cecil County dragway now. Getting ready to do a few runs.

All stock aside from 93R Bama tune and 245/45s on 2010 GT premium 19s.

Going to test K&N drop in filter vs stock. I'll do a data log of the runs. Hopefully this will be the say all end all of that debate.

73 degrees and 43% humidity tonight.

It would be nice to see stock with tune then drop in filter and tune and then cai and tune. I'm interested in results though

I would do that, but I don't really like messing with my tune when I'm away from home.

More of an abundance of caution thing.

Last year my best time was 14.44 @ 99. That was bone stock running 87 octane.

First run tonight was 13.9 @ 101.

At the track!

Best run with stock filter was 13.827 @ 102.66 with stock filter.

Best run with K&N was 13.852 @ 102.65.

I'll take a look at the data logs when I get home and post up the peak MAF numbers.

I'm really happy with these numbers. Bama for the win.

EDIT:

MAF readings (best readings):

Stock filter: 29.74 lbs/min
K&N filter: 29.71 lbs/min

Wow! This is great. Pretty funny, I actually was at Cecil last night with a few friends and saw you running your car! Sounds like your car is running really well. That's great for tune only!

What's up next with your car? I would love to see some bolt-on's and get you down towards the 12's !

*Cough, exhaust, intake, gears, updated Bama tune, Cough*

I am looking to do a similar test with my GFs Air raid intake... i would just like something more scientific than "peak" MAF readings, although it would be hard to come up with some sort of accurate average.

I would like to do an average, because peak only measures the difference at the Peak, an average (say from 2500-7000 in 1 gear) would measure gains allllll along the curve and potentially account for those. Granted, in this case, they are so close its basically a wash and almost not worth the effort. Props for getting out there and doing some proper logging, it really helps to understand the platform and share the knowledge.

Thanks, Dan! Had a lot of fun there last night. Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing a car there that looks like the in your pic.

3.55 gears are next on the list!

Yeah, you're right. When I get home from work I'll take a look at the logs and set it to give me an average of the runs. That's probably a better assessment.

I agree though, for all intents and purposes, I'd call it a wash between the two.

Just be sure to only grab the WOT sections, dont want to average in some idle or shut down time at the end of the track. Looking forward to your results, our track is down until early October, so it will be quite some time until i can get out there and do some testing -_-

Yeah, I'll edit the logs to show me from as soon as I get on it to as soon as I let off.

Time for some gears, headers, throttle body, and suspension adds! You are in the right ballpark for just having a tune.

Definitely pleased with tune only!

Not too shabby for just a tune.

Second run:

13.709 @ 103.43

To be honest, i havent seen an amazing difference with gears above 3.31. And aftermarket intakes do almost zilch. (Maybe steeda helps but i cannot find a confirmation from someone who ran down the track).

The really hardcore drag racers use 3.31s or less

Yea cuz i believe if you go 3.73 and higher, it requires an extra shift before you get past the ending line.

With those times, it would almost seem the 4.6 was stock. But why would you track a stock car? Might as well read the Ford brochure for numbers. LOL!

He was running around 13.7-13.8 all night. I didn't get a chance to talk to him. The dude that followed me wrecked and they had to fix the track, so I just left.

I got 4 runs in anyway, and that's exactly what I wanted to do.

Yea. I still dont know why you would track a stock car. But at least you showed AM was on point with what times you could expect with just a tune!
