The most mellow sounding axle back?

Hey guys !

After using, Flowmaster super 44s and series 10, I decided to go with a different route with my exhaust...

What could be the performance axle back that is just A BIT louder than stock?

What I have in mind is to go with a mellow sounding exhaust and install this >>> Pypes Electric Mustang Exhaust Cutout Kit HVE10K (79-14 All) - Free Shipping - AmericanMuscle to control the loudness coz authorities here is quite strict with loud exhaust.

I have my LT headers and off road x pipe so I guess sound will generally be louder whatever exhaust I use...

You'll want something with a lot of baffling like the Borla Touring. Or use resonators. Or both. Depending on what your needs are.

The LTs and cat less x aren't helping things though.

Borla Tourings will be exactly what you are looking for. They keep the muscle car sound without the noise.

I'm getting ready to order Borla Tourings. I'm like 99%. They are in the cart!

I'm looking for some noise when getting on it but subtle when not. This seams to be the feedback I'm reading on these. I really like the s-type sound clips but I'm afraid they will might be too loud when putting around my neighborhood.

The most mellow sounding axle back?

I replaced the mufflers in mine with the mufflers that come on the standard transmission.

It's exactly the sound I want, good rumble at idle, not waking up the neighbors, but you definitely hear it when you get on it. I don't like to draw much attention to myself. And since its OEM I don't have any drone and it's good quality.

It sounds better in person than in the video, but just as an idea. It doesn't sound raspy like it does in the video.

These guys have pointed you in the right direction. The Borla Touring and/or GT500 Mufflers will be pretty mild as far as exhaust goes. However, Long Tubes and no cats is going to make anything pretty loud. If you really want to quiet it down I would throw cats on there and do the one of the axlebacks that was mentioned.

Either way I think you'll be in good shape! Let us know if you have any questions or need some assistance in the near future.

a no brainer

Magnaflow streets
They are stainless steel, They have great looking tips, They fit perfect right out of the box, And most of all is that they sound great. A nice deep tone when just driving around but they really come alive when you floor it.

Op is looking for a mellow tone. I like flows also but if I was looking for mellow I would avoid them also. Remember he is running LTS and x pipe.

Flowmasters will give him loud raspy drone and a lot of pinging on decel. Literally the opposite of what the Op wants. That's why not flowmaster

You sure are right on that point Mister Grabberblue1993

For what he is wanting to do he needs either Magnaflow streets or Borla touring which are the same as Ford Racing touring.
I have the Magnaflows because I like the deeper rumble that the Borla or Ford Racing just don't have.
He sure has a great idea of putting the cutout to have it both ways, I hope he lets us know how this works out. It is a good idea.

Currently running Magnaflow street. Perhaps the rasp that I hear is because of improper pipe installation? It's for a v8 model and an exhaust garage did some piping to fit in... I hear an annoying rasp at 3300k+ rpm.

Also Wondering what the sound will be if I put back the stock (with my LT and x pipe).... and if it will affect the performance (in a negative way) since it's not a high flow muffler. ..

I just have the axle back Magnaflow streets

I did no other pipe changes and just installed the axlebacks. I get no drone at any RPM and not a bit of rasp at all. When driving down the interstate at 2,500 RPM's it just has a great humm coming from my pipes. I love these mufflers and they just remind me of the good old days. I don't like raspy crappy noise at all.

There's a video on YouTube with a guy that does LTS, xpipe and Roush, its ridiculously loud so he put his stockers back on and he gives it a few revs, I thought it sounded pretty good with the stocks. I'll try and post a link for you.

2011 Mustang V6 3.7L BBK Long Tube Headers and Of…: http://youtu.be/QFreqKK_ry4

As long as you have the O/R X its gonna be loud and raspy. I'd add some 18" resonators to help with the rasp.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure any AB you go with will produce some rasp with your current LTS and O/R X pipe. Before I went for shorties I was going to go with your set up, but after researching countless exhaust set ups I couldn't find an AB that sounded great with LTS, and X pipe. As soon as we remove the stock x/h pipe the sound goes all to hell IMO. Even the Borla didn't do it for me. Xpipe bad. Lol

I have Corsa mufflers. They are excellent. Mellow when at idle and cruse but just all out at WOT.

Bought my Corsa's because I wanted mellow and zero drone due to my long drive to work and couldn't have been happier. Sounds very "sophisticated" is the best way I could describe it and the fit and finish is great. Just traded it in on an MKX for the wife last week and kept the exhaust and put the stock back on for trade in. Didn't even get to do my first oil change on the car haha.

1 guy is selling a stock v6 muffler with dual tips (modified.. tips added).

My question:

Will there be a big "performance" difference between a
Stock v6 exhaust vs Magnaflow street exhaust? ??

Most mellow I've tried was shorty headers, bbk OR H pipe (catless), stock resonators, stock mufflers. Slightly deeper then stock but very mellow.

Worst setup I had was same setup above but with Pype Bombs. Drone, Drone, Drone. Drone at partial and hwy cruising. Nice idle, about the best thing to say about that setup. Had it on for 2 days, till I couldn't stand the whoa whoa whoa drone permeating throughout my head.

Setup I have now and like most. Same as first setup with 2 more resonators after H pipe and GT500 mufflers. Deep sound, very slight rasp at partial throttle around 2000-2500 rpms. Sounds deep at idle, good at partial throttle (minus the rpm I mentioned above) and great at wot.

No, no performance difference at all for mufflers. It's all about the sound. They are lighter than the stock mufflers, so that might make a very slight difference.

Marketing tricks. They'll say anything to sell products. Maybe 1-2 horsepower, if anything. If performance is your primary goal you'll get much better bang for the buck elsewhere. Get mufflers if you want to change the sound of your stang.
