It's not really that difficult to do.

Once you install the panel, Nobody will ever know you cut the protrusion off.
I wish they had this before I bought mine. I have the thick one with the ridges and it looks good but the RTR is just plain awsum looking.

This matches the license plate surround on my 2014. Why do you think RTR looks better? Do you have to cut sheet metal for this one?

I just ordered it. However, I wonder why RTR couldn't have designed their panel to have an indentation that slips over the bump? Or is the bump so high that it is thicker than the whole panel? If not, seems like lazy engineering to me!

The RTR one is much thinner and won't clear the hump.

The one I have is much thicker and does have it cut out where it clears the hump without any cutting of the car at all.
I'm satisfied with the way mine looks and won't be changing it.
But if that RTR panel was available in 2011 when I got mine I would have bought it and just cut the hump off.
Anything to get rid of that goofy looking fake plastic gas cap.

If they covered the bump, it would not sit flush and smooth with the car. Go look at the stock Panel on your 13 or 14 and then imagine it had the same thickness as the faux gas cap around the edges. It would be the ugliest thing in the world.

It looks like the CDC has a cut out for the hump that still keeps the decklid flush.

By flush, I mean that you retain the curve of the decklid as well as sit evenly with the taillights.

The CDC one shoots straight down, and ends up sticking further out than the headlights.

On a 2014, when you remove the deck lid does the faux gas cap come off still attached? And then, how do you remove the faux gas cap?

I'm wondering if they have produced enough to meet demand...

I think we'll see immediate back orders and preorders that are held. Hopefully you guys get what you paid for.

I may look into it later down the line.

Mine is the CCD panel

You remove the cap but don't cut the protrusion off. it is thick and the protrusion fits in a hole. With the tail light trim it makes it look factory.

I absolutely loooove the RTR deck lid.

I'm going to have to have a few tall glasses of my favorite bourbon before I click the order button on a $240 piece of shiny plastic though.

I believe on AM's website it says it is stainless steal. Although still a little pricey for what it is. But I think it looks 100x better then the factory piece. I am seriously considering this but just a little hesitant about cutting into the rear decklid. Although from doing a little reseach although you can't reverse the cutting you can still put the factory piece back on the car. So I may end up doing it.

Ooh I see that now. My sphincter is still puckered at the though of clicking confirm on $240 for a slab of metal. I know I'll do it though.

And you're right. It is 100x better

The longer you wait, the more chance your pre order will be too far down the list to be fulfilled if RTR doesn't deliver enough.

Yes i cap is attached to the decklid, theres a metal hump under that you gotta cut it off with a hole saw. I advise covering the hole with something after as well.

I had to cut my fog light supports off with a hacksaw to install my cdc grille. Dunno how comfortable i feel doin more cutting on my car for rtr. Someday i will, but that day is not today lol

FYI

The CDC panel 1011-7005-01, which AM shows as "CDC Rear Deck Lid Panel (10-12 All)" will fit the 13 & 14 as well. AM is not up to date on their info.
So for those that don't want to cut their trunk lid or are not crazy about the dust magnet effect of the high gloss RTR panel, there is a half price option.
Here are the installation Instructions received from CDC.

I think this looks better. the RTR is nice and flat which i like but not a fan of the shinny clear coat. If it was a flat black or Matte i may consider it, not too mention the need to cut your trunk...no thanks.

So this has grown on me in the last week. Problem is I would want to order the license plate surround, also. Why don't the finishes match on the deck lid and LP surround? Other option is a carbon fiber LP surround... Decisions...
