Rattling Noise

Hey folks! Over the past few months I've noticed that when I fire the Stang up, I get this awful rattling noise that seems to be coming from the back end of the vehicle on the drivers side. Nothing is loose in the trunk, and I've read that a loose sway bar had been a common culprit for such noise on the 11-14's. After assuring the sway bar was indeed not loose with a tightening, the rattle still goes on. Does anybody have any other theories or things they have heard as to what may be the case? Anything helps as it has recently started becoming vaguely noticeable while driving now and not just at the start up.

Thanks!
O'Brien

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust?

Yes, the previous owner had installed VForce mufflers. I'm not educated on the brand at all, but it sounds nice.

I'm more than certain it's your exhaust hangers. Each time I have switched my mufflers, I have had this annoying rattling noise at idle and sometimes when I'm going up hill. They just need to go in the holes properly.

The rattling I had was one of my mufflers broke a weld in a core. That started rattling.

You can check the hangers, but they're surrounded by rubber, so unless they did some half *** install, should be fine.

The next thing to check is your heat shields over the pipes. Those can sometimes come loose and rattle against your exhaust.

Check the clamps on your exhaust. One could be a little loose and rattle.

This happened to me and I couldn't figure it out for months. In my case it was both the rear sway bar and something else. The something else was the exhaust hangers would vibrate against the body at a certain speed because they were resting on the body. I took pieces of the foam packing paper , cut them, wrapped the hangers, and zip tied them onto the hangers. Problem solved !

More often than not, it's going to be your exhaust hangers causing the rattle if you have aftermarket mufflers. Or something loose like in case of grabber. I had a rattle coming from the front while going uphill, turns out it was a loose CAI box.
