Winter tread how low?

Swapped on my winter tires for the season. 11/32 rears and 9/32 in the front. I figure this is okay for a mild winter. Last winter was brutal but I had only one day where I was wondering if I would make it in. That was a semi ice storm though where roads were more ice than snow. The Firestone winter force worked well the rest of the year. Tire rack says 6/32 is end of usefulness for winters. Thinking of trying blizzaks next since they are supposed to have better control on ice. Thoughts?
