No it will not, you just got ripped off, now you have to send it in to get unlocked. How much did you buy it for?

Or did he just send you the email with the tune in it? If so it still will not work, but if that's the case at least you didn't get ripped off with a locked tuner.

Hopefully he set his car back to stock b4 he sold it to you, (there has been alot of people getting over on others that way) if not you will have to send it in to be unlocked.

Ok well check and see if it's locked or not. Hopefully it's not,
But either way the tune itself will not work on your car

Dam I can't remember, you have to send It in to SCT for them to unlock it,
I think it's a $100 might be wrong.

$150 I believe. Then the cost of whatever tuner company you want to go for. Lesson is, don't buy 2nd hand tuners.

You can check on the device if you go to device settings, it should show married or unmarried.

Nope. Bama is just the reseller and the tuning company they bought it from. You can put whatever tunes you want that are SCT compatible.

For example, I started with Bama, but now I have all MPT tunes.

The tuner you have is an SCT device with a Bama sticker on it, nothing more.

There's nothing wrong with buying a second hand tuner, as long as it's unlocked (sometimes refered to as "unmarried") from the previous vehicle, and that it has a valid number of unlocks available. I purchased a Bama Tuner (a.k.a. SCT), and it worked fine. I needed to connect it to the site and have some updates downloaded to it to bring it up to date, but other than that, the price was good, and it worked.

As stated, any custom tunes that were downloaded to it are only going to work on the VIN that the tune was made for. Custom tuners are smart; they will create a tune for a vehicle, but they will want the VIN of the car. This way, that tune cannot be used on other cars; they would loose money, which is not going to happen.

However, you can still buy your own tunes, load them onto this used tuner, then install them into your car.

A safe way to verify that the tuner you are about to buy is usable is to ask the seller to snap a picture of the tuner plugged in to the car, and showing the screen shot of the tuner with it's number of unlock counts left. Most tuners allow it to be used on up to 5 different vehicles, ONE AT A TIME of course. After that, the tuner would have to be reset by the company, and that's usually a $150.00 fee.

As stated already, if you purchased a tuner that is still locked (the previous owner did not return his vehicle back to the stock tune with this tuner), then that too can be corrected, but again, at another $150.00 charge.

Are the non custom tunes that come on the tuner (for example, Bama) also locked to a particular vehicle when the tuner was purchased, or are they set as universal?

I once had a tuner for my truck, and the tunes loaded on it (not custom tunes) would work on any vehicle that the tuner supported, one vehicle at a time of course.

Update ! I receveived the Bama tune, tried it on my car and it works ! i uploaded the custom 87 p, it gave me 3 choices, the 87s, 87p and the 93. Figured not to use the 93since i filled her up this morning with 87.

On question, the first few seconds I could the engine ping a bit, after that it seems ok, one more thing, a funny smell came out after I rev it to approx 4,5....

Any clue ? Or is it normal ?

Thanks !
