Best axle back for less than $500

What are some suggestions for axle-backs costing less than 500 dollars?

If you don't mind going used, you can find any axle-back your heart desires for less than $500. I found my Borla S-Type on craigslist (they are the exact exhaust I wanted but were out of my price range @ ~$600. Found them on craigslist used for $250 and now have the exhaust I ultimately wanted instead of settling for new ones in my budget!

So, my suggestion is find ones that you like. Check craigslist/ebay!

I having been looking at the Borla ATAKs but they are really expensive. Anyone have suggestions on where I could look for used axle backs? I have been checking on here and craigslist but no luck (other than a set of Borla ATAKs I let slip away because I had not done enough research yet to realize the deal in front of me)

Wait until you find a set of used Borla's. Patience is key. I got my ATAKs for $250.
Do not get flowmaster force II's. You will switch them out in a month for Borlas.

Thanks Grabber! Ya but I have been looking for months. When I first started looking there were 2 Borla ATAKs for sale on craigslist. Now that I know what I want there is nothing out there! Just my luck! I am getting impatient and have been looking at other options. Is there any other decent sounding axle backs that might be a bit easier to come by? Roush?

Honestly I would wait and save and get the Borla's. You will just end up switching down the road and lose $. I bought Pypes and after 6 months switched.
Wait an extra month or 2 and just save and get the Borla's if you can't find them used.
Do it right the first time rather than taking a short cut or getting a lesser option than what you want.

Absolutely Love My flowmaster force II axle backs. The sound and tone of them are sweet music to my ears. Not taking anything away from Borla but Flowmaster is the $ hit.

Really!? Maybe it is because you have LT's and the O/R pipe. Idk I've seen videos of the force II's and the pinging on decel sounds like rocks are bouncing around. Maybe it was just that persons video.
I would love to hear what yours sounds like! I wanna your compare how your headers sound to mine

This is a trick question with no correct answer for the best axle backs. Lol. Just a bunch of opinions on what is pleasing to the ear. Some love Roush axle backs and find its tone awesome and pleasing. I personally find Roush axle backs horrid and obnoxiously annoying. Grabberblue93 loves Borla where i love my Flowmaster Force II axle backs. Another member will come on and say were all crazy and you only want magnaflow axle backs. Those Roush, Force II and Borla is horrible. Another member will say pypes axle backs are tbe best.

All opinions and no real best answer. Its a matter of what axle back sounds the best to you.

Lol. Ill make a video of it at cold start and then rev up the ole engine a few times to give you a thrill. Lol. Even prior to my long tubes , my first mod was the flowmaster axle backs and me personally love them. Not saying Borla isn't good. Lol. I personally have always been a huge fan of flowmaster exhausts on mustangs in particular. Lol

I actually found this video I made from a while back when a thread was debating the sound of long tubes vs short tubes.

Yes sir. Borla ATAKs. With BBK shorty headers, FR x pipe, Airaid CAI, BBK throttle body, and MPT tune. The headers and mid pipe quiet it down a little and deepen/smooth it out.

Sounds much better then any flowmaster force IIs I've heard!
It sounds good. I'm partial to the lower, deeper Borla + shorties sound, but your set up sounds good!

Did you get Borlas first? Do you have any videos without the headers and mid pipe?

Ha wow you respond quick. Thanks for the video. Do you have any other suggestions on where else to look for used ones? I just dont think I could honestly be happy knowing I paid 700$ for axle backs. Also what do you think of buying stock axle backs and welding in some flowmaster mufflers?

Craigslist. Mustangmarketplace on instagram. E-bay. This and other forums for sale section. Try posting a wanted ad in the classifieds on here. Mustang facebook groups. I know there is a big one for us 3.7 guys.

Not sure what you're asking. The muffler pretty much is the axleback for the stock pipes. You can just change the tips really. Flowmaster mufflers you can just put on unless you mean straight pipes?

Axel backs are the mufflers, over axel pipes are the pipes you connect your mufflers to, mid pipe is the X looking pipe that sits between your headers and the over axel pipes. You could also change your midpipe and over axels to a larger 2.5" size. it will deepen your tone a lot.

I like the sound on each of yours! But I just love how Grabber's sounds more.
I'm leaning towards the S-type and maybe follow your set up, except for the MPT tune and CAI.

Thanks for the help. Ha guess I need an instagram now.

And I mean buying an extra pair of stock mufflers and cutting off tips and pipe that connects to mid pipes and welding them onto flowmaster mufflers. Basically making a custom axle back that can still be swithed out with no further welding or cutting. If that makes sense.

And since you brought up straight pipes, what do you think? have you seen any 3.7s with straight pipes?

I'm not sure the name or link of the facebook group, I know some members have posted about it. I think its "cyclone" something or other. I know Alrefire I think mentioned it.

Glad you like the set up! I'm really really happy with it, pretty much as deep as you can get for a v6.

I'm debating adding the frcc x pipe. Thoughts?

That popping is terrible. He also didn't rev it high or even moderate, so it keeps its deep idle tone on the revs. Looks like he revved it, heard those crappy pops, and kept it low lol.
