TUNE WITHOUT MODS

Can someone help to clarify. Is there any benefit to tuning a NA v6 without mods. I understand tuning will greatly increase power potential of certain mods but my question is as stated above: Is there any benefit (whether performance or economic) to tuning a NA v6 WITHOUT mods?

Sure are my friend. Especially if it is an auto. Ford left a decent amount of performance on the table that tuners can tap into.

+100 to that. The second thing I bought for my '09 was an SCT tuner. Get a tuner!

The first thing I bought was a sequential turn signal wiring harness. Hahaha. Then I added a cold air intake, dual exhaust, 3.73's...

If I have a 6MT is the tune still worth the price?

How much do tuners run? And how do tunes work. I know some say free lifetime tunes but are they truly free? In other words, is there a tuner I can purchase for a one time "fee" and never have to pay again, no matter how many mods I add?

Bama tunes are like that as long as you have the same car.

Steeda also has lifetime free tunes, same price as bama. I'm running steeda tunes on my auto V6, no engine mods, and I like the tunes a lot. It's $400 for the tuner and free tunes for life combo, same price as bama.

So what exactly did they change? Shift points? Timing?

So would it be safe to say a tuner is the best initial "mod"? You get performance just from the tuner, but it also will increase the performance of every mod you may want to make in the future. If this is the case, I need one ASAP!!!

Sct x4 is what I have. And bama tunes are also what I run but I have never tried any other tune so I have nothing to compare it to

The XF4 is slick. I've always used Cobb which has displays as well as datalogging from the device, and was irritated when i found out i had to have a laptop to datalog with my xf3. Its very clunky and cumbersome when in the car if you're by yourself, datalogging from the device is much more simple; just push the button, floor it, push button again. Easy.

Yes!! Best thing to start with by far. A lot of people like the MPT tunes. Thing is they don't upgrade you gor free like BAMA or Steeda. I'd say go with BAMA or Steeda stick with them while you add mods and when your just about doing all you think your going to do get an MPT tune...

MPT will do revisions for free for 6 months after you buy the tune. If you want a different octane level, forced induction, nitrous, or ghost cam you have to buy one specific for that.

@ Sakib;
I've been leaning towards Steeda lately, but I cannot find any info on their website if you get just 1 tune or 3 tunes like Bama. Can you tell me how many tunes you got from Steeda when you got the SCT tuner and Steeda's tunes for life?

Lol i should have been more clear, my previous platform used Cobb so i've been using their devices for the past few years. The XF4 is still like an original gameboy compared to the Cobb V3, but its at least leaps and bounds better than the XF3.

You can get as many different tunes as you want. I got two custom tunes with mine when they sent the tuner. Since then I've received four different tunes. Steeda will write your tunes in just two days time. I'm VERY pleased with their tunes and customer service.

Thanks for the info, that really helps. Looks like I'll be going with Steeda.

+1 on Steeda.

When I ordered my X4 from Steeda, I received an 89 and 93 octane tune.

I do have to say, Steeda has some of the best customer support I have ever experienced.

You get 2 tunes, but you just choose two octane levels. I got 87 and 93. I haven't tried the 93 yet, I've only been tuned for 1 week now. Steeda doesn't have "race" or "street" tunes the way BAMA does.

I have to say though, the 87 is leaving a lot to be desired. I'm in communication with Steeda right now to try to get this dialed in, but unfortunately the customer service rep I've been talking to on the phone (Patrick) is a real d-bag and just said "well, that's because you have a stock car. What did you expect, that you would put this tune on your stock car and be blown away by the improvement?" I asked if they will look at a datalog for me and he said "no, if you have a stock car then datalogging won't do anything, we have thousands of cars out there running the same tune." That is NOT good customer service. I'm in email communication with someone named Matt. I hope I have better luck with him.

Question for mpt.
When you buy their tune + tunner they give you 3 tunes at first. Can you just order one tune and save the rest for later?
And can you ask them to alter the first tune let's say you install some new parts in.

Haha yes all of you guys are correct. You don't have to spend much time on ME to learn two things: 1) the quality of a tune is highly subjective and confusing and 2) MPT is still the best. Only reason I didn't go with MPT yet is that my car is still stock engine-wise. So I wanted either Steeda or BAMA for the free lifetime tunes, and later on I'll spend the $75 for an excellent MPT tune. Decided to go with Steeda because of their relationship with Ford and Ish416's excellent review of their customer service. That hasn't panned out quite yet, but let's see what happens.

Wow, this is literally the first I've heard of a negative concerning Steeda tunes. Typically, this would be more of a Bama complaint. Dang! Where's the Steeda rep on this forum when ya need him?

You're right, I've never seen a negative post about steeda CS, so I have high hopes they will redeem themselves. Actually in my last email to Matt I specifically requested that they change my customer service rep to someone other than Patrick. Hate to tattle on him, but literally 3 out of 3 times I talked to him on the phone he was rude and condescending, treating me like I'm some 16 year old kid that knows nothing about cars. Those quotes I put are real, and I could have put others from my other two conversations with him.

Funny thing. I bet it's the opposite. We probably know more than patrick.
