Mgw shifter.

I got my hands on one for a good price, just curious how hard the install is?

Or would it be better to take it to a shop for them install?

Watch the video at the MGW site and decide if you're comfortable with the install or not. You will need to get the car up, at least on jack stands, to get underneath.

Might be helpful if you post up your mechanical knowledge and past experience otherwise there is no way of knowing if your capable of installing it. If you can install exhaust/ intake or other bolt on's then it shouldn't be an issue but if you can't install a shift knob I would take it to a shop.

I did the MGW installation with my friend in his garage. You pretty much just need to follow the video. Although it usually makes it sound so much easier than what will happen. It took us 8 hours( newbie ).

First off I'm a mechanic so I'm going to say it was easy. But I know that's not how everyone will see it. I watched the video and it helped a ton. I did the install in about 2 hours with the front on jack stands only. The hardest part was getting the bottom plate of the lower box in place and held up by myself. If you get someone to help they better be your girlfriend because its close quarters down there. (I tried that and the wife was pissed)

as said, the vids are pretty good. IF you can turn a wrench and follow instructions go for it (unless it seems too much) my hints are NOT to attach the rear support to the car untill you get the boot on which will give you flex for that and to attach the boot 1st where the hard to reach bolt is (one of the 4 bolts on top is kinda blocked by the car underside). It's one of those jobs where the 1st time is hard but it ain't nothing fancy or complicated.

I ended up employing a bungee cord hooked into the shifter rod cup to hold everything up while I installed the bottom plate. MGW says to just mount the rear bracket first now, but I was trying to follow an older video that was on their site at the time and showed a different version of the shifter box.
