I've been manually calculating my mpg with every fill up and I've been averaging ~24mpg. Probably 70% city, 30% highway.

Last tank was 572.6 miles. Used 14.887 gallons of fuel.

Very rainy and cold here as of late, and maybe having to much fun with it.

with my 3.31 (strongly recommended) I get 22-24 semi-rural driving. All hwy @ 75 = 26-27.

I find the low fuel light comes on when you need 12 gallons (of 16) it reads MT at 14 gallons of use.

Ignore Arcs #'s although they are the most accurate of any of ours he's an over achiever.....

If your only wanting good MPG I suggest that you

Don't buy a Mustang. A mustang is something you will want to have fun driving and if your going to worry about how much gas you will use get a Toyota or Honda or any other true "ECONOMY"car.
I say this because :::
When you have a Mustang you will always want to take the long way to get where your going.
When you have a Mustang you will want to just take a drive and not stay home to Watch TV.
When You have a Mustang you will want to floor it once in a while.
There are many other reasons but my finger is getting tired and needs a rest.

Oh, I usually get around 24 to 27 MPG around town and 29.6 on a long trip.

^^^^that......the long way home (guilty 1x week) is better than therapy as tellng your buddies "I have a Mustang" is way cooler then saying "I'm in therapy"

also if once in a while you go to high end places the Stang really looks good in a sea of BMW/Audis. Not hating on either. This is even more apparant if you get Race Red the fastest color.

although I wanna see the new yellow.

I drive 50 miles each way to work. 98% hwy. With little to no traffic I get 32ish mpg@75-80mph. In heavy stop and go I've seen it drop to 28ish mpg. Around town driving say 35-55mph, I average 26ish.

Manual, 2.73s, try to keep rpm below 2k for normal driving.

On my "fun days" I am lucky to break 20mpg. I did a well known scenic drive, 20mph switchbacks and 50+mph straights through desert canyons. Total trip was 130ish miles. Averaged about 17mpg but it was totally worth it.

...

I'd normally agree with you, but the mileage in my truck is so fugging abysmal that the Mustang feels like I own a Geo by comparison (MPG-wise anyway)

Like... double. I'm sh*tting in high cotton over here boys.

That makes me feel much better about otherwise completely ignoring my fuel economy except for the purposes of making sure nothing changes too drastically from one fillup to the next as to indicate that something broke

I installed a new Bama 93R Tune and took my car out to check it. On I95, flat road in FLA, I was getting high 38-39 mpg at 60 miles/hr. I know that's not real fast, but the A/C was on and traffic was heavy. Hard to believe, but true.

From Cleveland, Ohio, to South Florida, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway mountain roads, I averaged 28 mpg. That was with the Hybrid 93 tune.

Combined highway and city with no "fun time" driving I get 22mpg.

With my foot in the accelerator at every opportunity I get 12 combined highway and city...

At 75 mph I can average 27-28 mpg on the highway. I am running a 93 race tune.

24 mpg combined over 26K miles of back and forth to work in Los Angeles. The few times I've had it on the highway on long trips, I manage 34 - 36mpg. Yes, I do all the hypermilling tricks you can imagine. When I do them, I get 25 combined. When I drive "normally" I get 21.(why my average is 24 and not 25 - I experimented a while to figure out my break points - some tanks were hideously low with hardly any difference in driving style.

Note that my manual Volvo 240 years ago got 26-27 combined. This Mustang is *this* close to a Corolla or Civic in efficiency, but it's a lot larger, safer, and more fun.

Stock 17" wheels and 2.73 gears. Manual transmission. Tires close to the maximum PSI, nothing in the trunk.

I did try the new Ecoboost and it's just about impossible to drive it with manual and keep the rpms low enough to get the same mpg, barring perfectly flat land, because below the turbo's cut-in point, it has no torque at all, and above it/with the turbo spun up, it's not going to get 30mpg no matter what you do. The V6 has enough mass and a heavy enough flywheel to keep the whole thing moving along up and down small inclines without losing much energy.

EDIT - yes, those highway runs are usually at 55 - 60 mph or so and I take full advantage of big trucks to take the wind off of me. It's not like going up the 5 is anything but mindlessly boring anyways.

The thing is, getting a prius or whatever traps you into dull.

Getting a Mustang ALLOWS you to get good MPG, BUT, with great power comes great responsibility.

With a Prius, you can smash the pedal down, not go anywhere, and get 40+ MPG. You can get 40+ MPG in a Mustang without crazy or BS mods, BUT, if you don't modify it at all, make poor decisions (carry your favorite pile of bricks with you at all times, never check your air pressure) and run it like crazy, you can also get single digit.

I believe a Prius without tires and just on rims will still get 30 mpg lol. But if you can control yourself, you can have great MPG AND a sweet car. Just know it isn't idiot proof like a Prius or Fusion Hybrid.

Luke 11:9-10 “So I say to you ...*search and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

I gotta stop reading these mpg threads. Even when I chuck out the overachievers I'm still on the left side of the mpg bell curve.

22-23 half highway, half city with stock 2.73 gears. That's with the pedal to the floor as often as possible.

I only have 2500 on my odometer, but my lowest tank has been better than 24, while my best has been 27. As for everyone saying "if you're worried about economy don't buy a mustang", I disagree. If you "need" 30mpg maybe a mustang isn't for you, but in my case I simply wanted a rwd car with a manual transmission that gets good milage as an everyday driver. My mustang fits the bill perfectly, gets as good milage as my old "economy" car, a 98 contour with the 2.5 V6 5spd, and it's more fun. Just because someone cares about milage doesn't mean they don't care about anything else.
As for therapy, I save even more gas there, the mustang always takes a back seat to the Harley. Heck, even abusing the hell outta that throttle my sporty has only seen under 50 mpg once, and that was due to carrying a passenger for most the tank.

Come on now--- Do you really think "FLORIDA" is flat????

There are some hills in Florida that are high above sea level. Maybe three or for feet above.

One will get better MPG taking advantage of hills than on the flat road- but one has to do it right. (And there can't be a stop sign at the bottom of the hill lol)

I'm getting about 22-23 in town and 31 on the highway at 70+mph, according to the gauge. I've got a 14 with the mt82 and 2.73s. My in town driving could be much better but I'm having too much fun. I've had cars that get better mileage, but this one is way more fun to own.

One of the owners where I work has a 370 I've debated about having a go at her (car) but I figure it's a loose/loose deal. Either I legimitley loose and having seen her drive that is likely, or I win and she holds it against me.
