Air conditioner

It smells terrible. Brand new car, but everytime I turn the AC on the smell is terrible. Any ideas on what it can be? Car is spotless and has been since bought.

Check the cabin air filter. On mine it is on the passenger side under the black plastic by the firewall.

If it's brand new, go to the dealership.

Does it smell like coolant? I had a terrible smell when using the air conditioner on my 2014 when brand new. Within days I noticed driver's side floormat was wet. It was coolant. At 330 miles it was determined the heater core was cracked. Hope this is not the same for you, but you might want to check.

I have the exact same problem! Haven't noticed any coolant leaks, but whenever i turn on the a/c, it smells like mold/dirty socks???

I noticed after 3 days there was this stink, stronger with ac on, and little new car smell. It took about 6 days until the driver floorboard got soaked. Ford said new cracked heater cores are very unusual, so probably not the cause of your issue.

Thankfully. I would be pissed if I had a soaking wet passenger carpet and a broken heater core on a new car!

They would not give me a new car. Dealership had it 7 days. Had to take out entire dash, seats and center console. Replaced all carpeting although Ford just wanted them to clean the carpeting. Good news is that except for some small scrapes that only I would notice, no rattles and everything works. 3000 miles now and no other issues.

I would have raised hell! The whole purpose of buying a new car is for it to be... New.
