to tune or not to tune

Okay, so every where one reads, when you buy a CAI you will get the best benefits with a tune, so they sell tuner + cai kits or bundles. Mind you, I drive a stick shift. So the bolt-on mods I have are flowmaster exhaust, bbk shorty headers, and JLT CAI. I've asked BAMA to revise a tune that I thought they had sent me to resolve my idling issue. The rep said that the reason my car had acted up weird was because JLT CAI was included in the tune and that that CAI in my car year model does not require a tune. He also went on to say that BBK shorty headers also do not require a tune nor the exhaust. So my question is: why did I get tuner in the first place if nothing is being "updated"? Some one please explain and enlighten me. What are the main benefits for a tuner in a stick shift vehicle? Throttle response alone?
