And engine is an engine. These cars are basically sold as a basic machine with the idea that you will end up customizing it. (Kind of like the old LEGO motors - you built the car around it) What matters is what you end up with after all of your mods and tinkering.

Every shop you ever talk to (ok, Most shops) say every other shop is full of retards and they do things wrong lol.

When doing corners though lol, just because you can afford it doesn't mean you can drive it, and there's so much more to learn to go faster from the other guys, and 95% of the time it doesn't involve buying more parts. I always tell my GF to just go stick your head in some guys engine bay, and let them start talking about it. People LOVE to talk about their cars, their set ups, what they're doing to go faster, how they attack a corner. Its not all hush hush, and sandbagging like drag racing. I just feel like everyone on a road course is more willing to be there, despite the obvious human competitive nature.

That being said, i only do open track days, no formal competing, so i may be completely off here.
Auto cross guys are the best. When I've gone they've been nothing but friendly, giving me all sorts of advice on technique, which tires to use, etc. super friendly encouraging group of people.
Theres no "why do you have a RWD muscle car here". They're all in Miatas and BMW z4s blowing my car away, and they've been nothing but nice and think its cool auto crossing a v6 mustang

As a 3v owner I used to take offense to this. But when I started racing I was shown the truth. My advice to 3.7 guys is go race a 4.6 1st and then see if you have room to talk such a big game then.
I can tell you when I told a '07 GT/CS vert club member friend of mine that my 305hpr V6 had a MPT tune and Steeda CAI that should add 20hpr, she was upset in a friendly way . "A 325 horse V6??? Your kidding me???"

I later found out that while I originally thought I would never need anything faster then my Cyclone which I was proud of and had some Show Iron for it already {Trophy} ; I wanted more. I looked at Boost and Swaps. I determined money was better spent to trade up to a GT I can grow old with like Clint in Grand Torino. {Get off my lawn....} I felt it just might be the last time in my life I could afford it so I did it. I couldn't swing the Shelby without negative debt hanging over my head so I settled for the lowly GT with MT-82.

I think that V8s in 6-8 more years will be priced outta sight, so now is the time to do it. Think 1972-73

I had an '07 GT and if anybody should be pissed on, it's FORD. I paid thousands of dollars more for a 300HP engine that averaged 17mpg on a good day. Then FORD comes out with a 31mpg V6 that had more balls than my GT ever thought of. Today I drive a Cyclone 3.7.

I will say, it was pretty amusing watching a few 2v owners fight for low 15s, high 14s at the track one night when my GFs auto v6 with gears and a tune was running like 13.7 lol ...

I will say, I was amused yesterday when I pulled up next to a yellow convertible GT (01-04) on the way home from work. Of course we were both at the front of the line in stop lights. He revved a bunch and took off on the green. I didn't bother because I know how that story ends

Yeah... I love the 2v body style, a clean 2v is probably one of my favorite mustangs. I really wanted to just pick one up and have a fun project car, but theres just really not anything you can do to that engine to make it anywhere near worth the cost -_- kind of sad really.

Agreed. 04 Terminator convertible is on my wish list. I almost ended up with one when I was thinking about transferring to Panama City Beach for work last year. Not sure there is a better beach crusing car (fast enough, loud, can fit 3 ladies). Position fell thru and I ended up getting a promotion to move to the middle of nowhere.

Lol on a side track here, Back when i had my mazdaspeed3 i was out at a meet one night and a few lambos / vipers rolled through. I wasnt super cocky, just went over and asked if any of them were looking to run, not making a big deal out of it, just seeing. They declined so i just chatted for a bit, but one guy with a viper was getting real uppidy with me. After a little back and forth his buddy steps over and says "doesnt matter how much HP your crappy Mazda has, he can still get way more girls at the club than you."

I said thats not true at all, he can only fit one and i've got a hatch back, i can fit like .... 5 fat *****es, or about 8 skinny ones. He didnt have anything to say after that lol.

If someone tells you "you don't need more power", stop talking to them. You don't need that kinda negativity in your life.

They sold because that era in the 70's was so depressing for new car performance. Most folks actually thought they looked good; especially girls in gogo boots
What were you driving then? I had a used '72 Seabring plus 400/4v and still it was slower than my Cyclone 3.7 I had. Folks got it great right now, that is why I jumped in to get one.

In the 70's I was driving a 67 barracuda with a dual quad 426, tilt front end, fender well headers, 5:13 gears, 12.5" wide slicks....etc. etc. those were the good old days when you could do what you wanted and the cops were cool with it.

You can find them in the boneyards right next to the Pintos and Granadas, and right across the aisle from the Gremlins, Pacers and Hornets. You sure won't find many on the street or even in garages anymore.

Maybe where you were at; we got pulled over just for having long hair or the bumper in the back too high compared to the "Stick" they used to give you a jacked assed ticket.

Yea, OK your right. I felt "Disenfranchised for not being in Kali back when it was still Kewl. Around here, that sounds more like the cars I would see at Detroit Dragway, not on the streets of Ohio and Michigan as driving cars.

Heck in 1972 Jim Rockford still was able to afford to live in a Trailer Home on Malibu Beach While driving a Firebird 400 doing J-turns

Cars were the thing, there were beaucou 55 chevies w/straight front axels, ladder bars, every body had a tunnel ram or a blower sticking out of the hood, fenderwell headers were big back then, we didn't have drag radials, you just ran wrinkle walls everywhere you went. That's just how we rolled.
