More light for backup camera

I'm not sure about the rest of you but I rely heavily on the backup camera when getting into my garage. However, going up the driveway or in parking lots I always have trouble seeing because there isn't enough light from the reverse lights to provide a clear picture. Any ideas on how I could get more light back there?

You could try brighter license plate bulbs. Not sure if that is close enough to the camera to actually help, or if it even shines out far enough. Its an idea you could test out.

Your best bet imo would be to get a camera with good Infra red leds built into it. Or maybe a few led stripes glued on your rear diffuser/some other location on your read bumper - wire em with reverse lights.

You could also look over your shoulder and use your mirrors...do not rely on technology

Infrared LEDs above your license plate. Hadn't thought of that!

I used to use my mirrors but I bought the car with 5% tint on the back windows and 20% tint on the doors and I have a real hard time seeing at night so I use the camera

You know I just thought of something. I have led license plate lights and I'm thinking that because they are brighter maybe the computer is picking that up and adjusting the contrast/ brightness to it and because it doesn't light up the entire background it makes it harder to see what's farther behind me

Why not lower the windows when backing out? That's what I do

The 2013 Back up lights must be brighter, I can see pretty good out of mine at night.

I have no real problems with the camera except when it gets moisture on it, the taillights will create a glare. I also roll down the windows because of the tint. I have no issues once I am close to the garage door because of the opener lights. You might consider adding lights in front of the door to extend the visible light coverage. They can be operated with the opener. You can also incorporate driveway lights if needed. The 2013 Mustang has LED backup lights. If yours doesn't then a conversion may help. Otherwise, the easiest on vehicle option would be to add some LED spots to the lower valance and tie them into the backup lights.
