2014... The Last of the Straight Line Muscle Cars

The base 2014 Mustang V6 is the closest cousin to the 1964 GTO that has ever been produced. It's the end of an era.

Bare bones car, leaf springs, meant to go straight. And fast. The last of the breed.

So why would you say the V6 and not the V8?.. And why compare it to the old GTO and not a older Commaro or Mustang?.. Plenty of other Old School Muscle out there!..

The original GTO was a basic car, non-leather, plain wheels, and built to be an inexpensive go-fast car. The Mustang GT is not that car. The GT is a great car, but not representative of the first muscle cars. The 2015 Mustang is another great car, but is becoming more exotic and European. And independent rear suspension. Old school cars aren't what I'm talking about; I'm talking about present day manufacture. I guess you had to be there to understand. And it's Camaro, not Commaro.

And you can get a solid axle in a 2015, you just have to order it!..

And not to mention that the cars today are faster in a straight line than the old school was!.. And they handle better too!.. Not really an End To an Era!.. It's just progress!..

I would say its been a progression over the years. The old school went straight and thats it. Now we go to the track getting 20-30mpg with the ac on listening to the radio. Then you run 10-13's second passes all night leave the track and go drive out for the rest of the night. The new cars go fast straight, in the curves, and stop well. Im all about the old cars especially the GTOs but gotta move on with the times. My buddy has a bolt on 2011gt runs 12.20 and drives everyday.

The end of the straight line era for Ford was when they stopped putting big blocks in Mustangs cause you could turn. Also the Mustang was a track boss back in the day check the old SCCA/Trans Am races and who really wants to only go fast in a straight line where's the challenge in that....

No the GTO's did not have a cloth interior and you could make them handle.
Below is my new 1966 GTO in a road race at Pacific Raceways in Kent WA.

I don't see it either.....if I had to pick the closest modern equivalent I would say the Dodge Charger. A big reason the GTO sold was it was a muscle car for someone who needed a family car. And the Charger is the best suited for that.
