Another tablet install lol.

Just finished installing a 7" Asus tablet with a custom faceplate that I made at work. Has all my music, movies, full internet tethered to my nexus 5 with turn by turn audio GPS through the sound system along with a 12$ Bluetooth device I now have a Bluetooth in the car with incoming calls displayed on the tablet.

What you guys think?

Sorry, the screen is a little dirty along with my interior, she's in winter storage lol.

Interesting i would have assumed it would be difficult to link the cd player with the tablet. It all looks pretty close to oem too but with carbon fiber

Its a pretty simple set up. The tablet runs through the aux input while everything else runs like normal. I really wanted to keep everything in one piece without cutting the OEM faceplate. Basically the tablet can be removed within 5 minutes and the dash will be back to OEM with the simple removal of the carbon fibre wrap.

I really liked the Raxion GPS but couldn't justify the hefty price tag for it. This set up ran me 115$ (65$ for the tablet and 50$ for a ton of carbon fibre wrap) and does so much more than the Raxion.

Very nice. Feels good when you can pull something awesome off yourself. The money saved justifies it all. Plus it came out really good.

Thanks guys. IMO its a great DIY project that can be done by anyone with a little patience. I've even seen someone make a face plate out of wood and have it looking pretty sweet.

Did you take any photos of how you made the face plate? How did you attach to the center console? I have the base stereo too, been thinking of this project for a while. Great job.

Innovative, and cost effective as well, my hat is off to you sir. I build and service pc's so I should be able to do that as well. What is $12.00 bluetooth connection?

Here are some pics of how it looked before the final result. In my case I used 18gauge (.050) steel for the plate, made a little program to punch it on our CNC amada machine and bent the one flange. I used very thin ,.020 2" X 1" stripes of steel, 5 in total and spot welded them to the face plate. One in each corner and the last in the middle top. Epoxy would also work to attach them to the face plate. Then, with the radio out of the car like in the second picture, I placed the face plate onto the radio. Once centred I simply bent the 5 tabs around the radio by hand and viola.

I understand most don't have access to some of the tools to replicate what I did, but I've seen people use plastic and yes even wood. The carbon fibre wrap I purchased at Walmart that came as a sheet, I believe it was 5'X5'.

The Bluetooth device I purchased was 13$ (cad) and works like a charm. I was plenty surprised that it not only worked and sounded great when receiving calls but it also will use my phones voice recognition when I want to make an out going call. Ex, I just need to press the button and you speak the name of the person or phone number you want to call and it dials out automatically.

With an cheap app from the play store called tablet talk, the tablet will display who's calling and will also display any texts you receive. You can even respond to texts by just speaking you response.

I hope to do a full functionality video when I get back from punta cana for anyone interested. Sorry I'm at the airport as I text this lol.

Any other questions feel free to ask, I'll help in anyway I can.

Looks great, I would love to do this instead of the Raxiom GPS, much cheaper and an android tablet has a lot more functionality.
Is it easily removed? Because it looks like it you would be blind to what FM station your on

ATT has the 7" LG on sale for .99 with a two year agreement. If you have a existing data plan...add 10.00 per month to add this device. Wasn't that impressed with it at the store, almost walked out. But, I'm a ATT employee so it only cost me 5.00 a month on my half price data plan!! they also wave the 14.99 activation fee....so crap...I couldn't pass it up! After I got it home ....I really like it!! Almost as much as my 3.73 gears!
