Smile Getting my 3.55 gears installed next Monday

So I'll be driving down to Fastlane Motorsports in Benson, NC to get my gears swapped in my 14 V6 Auto.

Already have my revised tune from Steeda ready to go thanks to Matt @ Steeda for same day service.

Anyone have advice on gear break in? I'll have to drive approx. 2hr to get back home after the install.

Keep it nice and easy for about 100-200 miles if you want to be safe. Ideally under 60mph, but if you have a long trip that might not be entirely possible.

How much are they quoting you for labor and parts (unless you're supplying parts)?

This and the tune is definitely gonna put a smile on your face. See if you can get some 0-60 times before and after!

Wow that seems way way cheap....not saying anything negative about them ,but damn. The parts alone cost close to 300.00. The place I went to here in Socal want 1300.00 parts and labor or 450.00 for labor.

The parts came out to like $285ish (Ring, Pinion, Gear Oil, Cleanup Etc.).. My other quote in NC was $515 but the shop I'm going to seems to have a much better following/reputation. I was also getting ridiculous quotes back in CT for $1k+, SoCal.

Yup. I said the same exact thing. He even told me it would be best to get my own parts for that reason. He knows hes not cheap.

Installation went great! The guys at Fastlane were super nice and even put in weep holes in my Borla S types for me while it was up on the lift. So far there are no signs of whining or other new noises so I'm happy. Took it easy for the 2hr drive home with a few 1/2 hour breaks in between. Can't wait to get my new 0-60 time. For anyone in NC, I highly recommend their shop!

Did you notice much of a difference driving normally?

CUBuffalo: Definitely a huge difference in regular driving..a lot more pull.accidentally got some tire spin going reverse ..RPMs are higher but less noticeable than I thought it would be.

John: I'm at like 2000-2100ish going 70 I think. Loving the new acceleration even in my "careful" break-in driving

How long did it take them? I work full time in Charlotte and also go to school and was trying to figure out how I could squeeze my way down there

Lisl12- ya it's kinda hard to keep your foot out of it.. Probably the second biggest gain I've felt in my car... Can't hardly complain about the mileage loss. Gas is nice and cheap right now anyways. Can't wait for race season..the Drag radials and nitrous are calling my name! Lol

Matt:Took them approx. 3hrs their normal hourly labor rate is 85/hr from what I heard while I was there but they can email you a quote for anything you want done.

John:Gas mileage was actually pretty good on the 2hr trip back (27.5mpg) including a few stops along the way...hopefully my tires don't go bald too soon!

That's more than a reasonable rate, just trying to make sure it's done right

3-4 hours is standard, so consider that and the hourly rate when you're shopping.

ANd you'll notice your city mileage go up a tick or two (if you can take it easy). At least I did with my 3.55s. Totally balanced out the tick or two loss on the freeway for a wash in combined. Totally worth it.

$300 is probably just the labor charge. Hell the parts alone including fluids are almost $300, they couldn't make money.
