Driving off to far is not possable

The fob has to be within a certain distance from the car or the engine will shut down. This system has already saved cars from a few car jackers because they took the cars from some owners and did not take the fob's. They drove down the street and the engines shut down. It just happened here in the Orlando area and the car had a kid in the back in a baby seat. It not only saved the BMW but also saved the child.
I had this system on my Mini and loved it.

I will mention twice Car & Driver has mentioned leaving the vehicle keys on the roof when swapping drivers/cars and driven off and lost keys

That isn't a problem for me. Nobody else drives my car

After much internal debate I think I am going to wait on this mod. Just too many other things I would get more enjoyment out of, first. If I ever see one for half price I will probably jump on it, though.

Lol, well I've bought all my mods, so this is actually the next thing to purchase. I just haven't installed anything yet. Sigh...

Unfortunately I still haven't been able to stomach the $600 plus install for something that amounts to "cool" factor. Priorities changed recently and dropped a chunk of change on a ring and saving for a house. Getting my last few mods in this summer before I turn over control of finances (she has a degree in accounting so I'm not going to argue, lol).

I wonder if it'll work with my aftermarket remote start also?

My wife has this on her car from the factory, it's honestly pretty damn useful.

I don't think I could go back to a conventional key if I had a daily with this.

Congrats on the ring and house decision! When you go to buy a house, let me know so I can refer you to an agent and get a referral fee that we can split for car parts

Ordered the system today... I'll try to take some pictures and such while I do the install... when I can get to it since it will be pretty in depth. Thankfully I have an extra vehicle when I do it so I don't have to rush the job.

Got my kit today... Gotta do some reading to familiarize myself with the system. About 13 wires to connect not counting direct plug in ones. So I'll have to figure out best place to correct them all. Replacement door handle looks good though. Seems they switched to a plastic key in the fob for a backup. Also have to get them cut and possibly spare metal one to inset into the key cylinder to unlock steering wheel.

More details as I find them. I'll answer any questions I can if they come up.

Congrats! I am in the exact same boat as you. But we are using my 'stang as our wedding-mobile, so she sees the benefit in putting money into a couple more cosmetic mods.

This would be cool but I wouldn't pay $600 for it personally.

Well it's actually three devices in one...

1. Push to start system (leave your keys in your pocket)
2. Security system (shock sensor included)
3. Remote start

So it's not just a novelty push button

Installation complete.

Ran into issues finding wires, but it's nice to have it completed. Now I just have to setup a neutral safety so that I can make the remote start work with my manual transmission. I've ordered the magnetic switches that will be used and they should be in in a few days. Then I'll make the switches trip a ground to the clutch. After that it should remote start.

post up how to info on this when you are done....it sounds like you know what you are doing but be careful with the neutral safety switch part. Remember once it starts to crank it goes for 10 seconds or till it starts. I know when they put remote start on them with MT's you need to have the car running/close door which verifys neutral then you shut off the car. The system will not allow start if it sees the door open before the start is triggered.

interesting, 600 for a 3-in-1 isn't bad. But still a little steep to me.
