Trying to install Strut Tower Brace... Help lol

Alright so... Here's the situation... Just got my strut tower brace in. I didn't have a socket big enough so I went out and bought a larger set.

How the hell do I get that plastic piece off ?!?! I'm stuck at the "PRE-INSTALL" stage of this install lmao. Please put me out of my misery and tell me the blatantly obvious step I am missing.

I've tried pulling, pushing, twisting... I'm stuck and feel like an idiot.

Try pliers. Crimp them together and pull out is what looks like needs to happen

It's an anti-theft retainer. Put it in a vice and pound out with a punch.

Hmm. don't have either of those things. Time to get creative. Thanks!

Edit: Just held it in my hand, stuck a screwdriver in it and hammered away. FINALLY.

Crisis Neutralized! I never would have known it was an anti theft device. Thanks again x100!

Bought a Torque Wrench for this because I figured it was about time to get one. That is one nifty device lol

No problem! Brace looks awesome! Looks like getting that plastic piece out of the socket took way longer than the actual install. Just like all that stupid clear plastic packaging everything else comes in nowadays that you practically slice your hands open on trying to tear into them.

I wish. I can't justify ~$150 for it though, lol.

I know. It's like highway robbery for the companies that make this stuff. But when you do finally get your hands on it, at the end of the day it makes your car look that much better.

Or my 13-14 conversion inserts. 75 bucks for 2 slivers of plastic. :sigh:

I guess they figure I just spent a boatload on the lights so I'd be willing to pay for those inserts lol

But it is really "nice" foam...LOL I do like mine though even if I am the only one to see it. Ford calls it an insulator so I guess it does help keep the banks at the same temp. The passenger side cylinder bank is insulated by the intake.

It's an anti-theft retainer.
Now instead of someone stealing one or two sockets they just take the whole thing.
Ha ! Ha !
Some Government agency must have thought this anti theft thing up.
