Driveshaft install

Hey guys I'm new to the forums and had a quick question about my car. Today I got my one piece aluminum driveshaft installed and I hear a howling like noise when I'm around 70ish mph. Anybody know what this could be?

Does it sound like its coming from the engine bay or underneath the car?

It's sounds like it's coming from the rear. I also have 3.73 gears installed but only started to hear this noise when I installed my driveshaft.

Maybe lift it and reinspect the bolts. Also, make sure it clears everything else and nothing is rubbing.

Also, sometimes you can get sounds from the wheels at higher speeds, so make sure to check that they are properly inflated.

Tired should be good because I just got an oil change as well from ford and they check the tire pressure. Also I did not install the bolts I had it done by a friend at his shop. He torqued the bolts to about 80 ft pounds is that what they are supposed to be torqued too?

I tend to think it's more of a gear issue.

I've had the gears installed for over a month now and never heard this noise before.

I'm wondering if the two piece stock driveshaft dampens the sound more and now that you put a one piece aluminum driveshaft on, the sound from the steeper 3.73 gears is more noticeable.

Would you guys think my magnaflow catback rubs on the driveshaft since it's bigger piping than stock?

Look at the driveshaft. If it is rubbing, you should easily see a line around the driveshaft where it is.

I don't think anything should be making a noise.

When I had my Axle exchange aluminum driveshaft installed it did away 100% of the clunk and does not make any noise at all.

I would think Harm_3.7 has a rear differential whine that needs to be taken care of. I hope the shop that installed it does not give him the old" IT IS SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE THAT "CRAP" and redo it. The problem is that a few things will need to be purchased again and shops hate to do that.

Of course at 70+ MPH it could be wind or tire noise. Hopefully just tire howl.

Taking it back to the shop later today lets hope they don't try to pull that on me!

Well you can usuall gauge where the shop techs are as far as mechanical skills by asking them if your muffler bearings are still ok. This will give you all the info you need in order to determine if you should leave your car with them.

Haha I actually did my research before I left my car with them. I don't even trust my dealer with my car 😜

So guys I got the gears checked out and they check out to be wearing right and everything. They even redid the whole install and it still seems to make the noise. Thankfully I didn't have to pay again! So could use some opinions on what should be my next step?

You could get it on a lift with someone in the car and have them put it in drive and accelerate. Then you check under the car and see what is causing it. As long as the rear wheels arent on the ground, the car shouldnt go anywhere. And this will allow you to see them accelerate to whatever speed you need them to in order to diagnose.
