2014 Race Red paint issues

I've only put 4k miles on my car in the 2 months I've owned it, and it already has around a dozen paint chips on the hood/bumper. Is ford's paint that much of a POS, or might I have a defective paint job?

might just be unlucky with rocks.

what you need to watch out for on the hood is the hoodlip bubbling. mines going in monday for a complete hood repaint.

i had a rock bang up my front right next to the hood a bit, and the plastic is chipped, and it bounced to the hood and made 2 small dings right down to the metal. sucks, but what can ya do.

The pattern of these chips are all over. The first was during the first week. I can see a rock chip once every couple months or so, but at this rate I'm going to have to repaint the front clip after the first year, and there's no excuse for this except for ****ty paint/prep.

My black paint has a few chips after 11k miles. But I know for a fact that they're from rocks. I've been hit hard by unidentified flying objects on the interstate lucky the windshield hasn't cracked lol

I ran over half of a large vise this morning. I almost threw up. I'll jack the car up tomorrow, but looks like just a few minor scrapes on the underbelly.

I don't live in a part of town that has a lot of rocks on the road, which is why the damage to the paint shocks me.

The issue may be following too closely behind other vehicles.

No, in my line of work I respond to accidents for a living and I've seen the horrid results of tailgating first hand as I'm cutting people out of their cars. While ours aren't the worst, they don't hold up great when we run them into things. I also never stay in the same lane as dump trucks, concrete trucks, and if I have an option...pickups and jeeps. This car is my daily 60% of the time and I try to keep it out of harms way.

Then I'd half to say you have bad luck. I have similar mileage with a most of it highway and not one chip in the front end. I would look I ot a protective film possibly.

I have 20,000 miles on my 2013 and think I only have like two small chips on the hood.

My car is the same color. I used to commute 100 miles round trip on the interstate and my job was in the industrial side of town so I accumulated a lot of chips. My old V6 bumper was pepped. It was cheaper to upgrade to the GT bumper I wanted anyway than to repaint that thing lol.

Still need to get a new hood, so I'm not bothering repainting that.

Hey Red Pony
Sorry to hear about the chips etc. I know it is a bummer but I think you have had some bad luck. The first thing I do on a newer car is get a thick coat of wax on the front to protect it and I still get a few dings here and there. It is just hard to avoid. When it gets to the point that you can't stand it any more get it into a body shop for a re-spray.

I claybar and waxed the entire car after about 2k miles. The chips have started popping up after. I can do the paint myself, so that isn't the issue, I just am disappointed with the quality of the paint. I don't want to repaint my 2 month old car. I'd rather put my effort into suspension and performance.
