Looking for a good driveline/transmission shop in the Boston-Providence area. >>

Trying to track down an issue that's cropped up after having my gears redone (gears had to be redone to remediate some headaches from the dealer messing up warranty work).

Basically, the problem is this. I get a brief whistling whine at around 1k RPM, mainly when coasting in gear. I also notice some increased driveline vibrations around 60 mph and a rumble coasting at low speeds. All seems to be coming from the transmission area. My thinking is that the 6R80 isn't really known to blow up under normal use, so I suspect U-joints or maybe output bearing noise. Since the rear end gears were recently redone by a pro, I think those are fine.

Would love to get it to a decent shop to have a look and see what's going on before the spring driving season sets in and problems get worse.

Thanks!

Thanks! Dealer would be a last resort, and I agree that there should be decent shops with good guys around. I'm just wary of randomly picking something off a list, so would love any input from members who've had good experiences.

There is one such place in Taunton, but between winter project cars and the storms, they seem booked out for a while.

Not sure who I spoke with, but definitely friendly. No tune this visit...want to get the issues sorted out with the car (it's been a string of them since buying it).

Stopped by on Saturday and met Bryan. We went for a test drive and he put the car on the lift to check it out. Actually nothing bad going on, just a bit of extra play and slight leak from the tailshaft of the transmission. He doesn't think it's bad enough to need replacing now but just keep an eye on it.

Nice folks and they clearly know their stuff. I'll be going back in the future!

Nice, good to know but do you still have the whining sound? How's the shop look like?

They felt the whine was normal... likely masked by how noisy my rear end was before I had it redone.

Some of the noise could be from play in the tailshaft...will get that checked out when it warms up.
