I got a question ??????????????????

The power socket on the dash is live all the time.
I want to leave my Garmin GPS plugged in all the time.
I do turn it off when not needed and when I'm not in the car or it's in my garage.
MY QUESTION IS:

If the Garmin is off, does anyone think it is drawing any power????
The little led light stays on in the plug but I'm pretty sure that won't drew much.

Ronnie

Same thing with my phone charger. The led stays on, but the draw is minimal. Never been an issue.

If your battery is a bit older and if it may not hold a charge like it used to, then I would vote against this. If you got a new battery, I would assume you would be ok.

I agree, I believe power draw would be minimal.

I leave both my phone charger and gps plugged into the 12v at all times, even when car is not in use. have had it over a year like that. Car hasn't had any battery issues like not starting or anything. i wouldn't worry about leaving it plugged in.

I used to do the same thing with my phone charger. It didn't seem to affect my battery and I left mine plugged in all night before.

If you have a multimeter and have a little ambition, you could always perform a "Parasitic Draw Test".
It's relatively easy and there are loads of instructional videos on YouTube. Granted, some better than others.

Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! Ha !

That's not Mario, But he sure is beautiful and happy. Mario is a Pembroke and born without a tail. This guy looks to be a Cardigan and has a tail. Still a Corgi and still one of the smartest and fun loving dogs """EVER""
Plus Mario has a racing stripe across his head.
Thanks for the pictures

+1 on parasitic draw....idk how much but as a general rule unless you have a good reason to leave it plugged in I suggest unplugging it.

Overnight is usually not a problem a few days or a week could be a problem. I am responsible for a fleet of service trucks and if we leave one parked for more than a week or so the GPS transponder will drain the battery down wait too long it will ruin the battery. Phone chargers and GPS's will do the same thing. So if you know your car will be sitting for more than a day or so unplug everything for sure!

I usually take the extra couple seconds to pull the plug out just a little bit to where the light goes off. It stays in the socket so I never have to put it away.

Newer cars have enough draws on them as is (stereo memory and God knows what else)... But that being said I have an aftermarket xm stereo that is on all the damn time.. The screen quit a while ago but idc.. Anyways I've had that in there and not drove the thing for a week or so at a time... Starts right up. I highly doubt a draw that small of amperage would even begin to matter. Also have a usb adapter with a light..

The little red light is a low power LED and just indicates the plug is powered. If you're sure the GPS receiver is completely off then I wouldn't worry. The additional current draw is almost nothing compared to all the other on-board electronics. Some always powered electronic add-ons will draw the battery down fast but this isn't the case here.

If it's a car your driving pretty regularly you won't have a problem if you know you won't be driving it for a couple weeks I would unplug any accessories.

I agree with Dave73 on the 2 weeks. My bone stock '14 GT had to sit for 2 weeks due to snow and the battery was down to half charge! I plan to recharge every 2 weeks when I can't drive to keep the battery's life as log as possible.
