Replace chrome trim around grille

so on the regular v6 premium, the trim around the grille is chrome. although it looks nice, it looks more like, sedanny than if it were black (as my car is black.)

is this removable? can you buy a black one to replace it with? if it's removable, is it easy?

thanks!

Not sure about replacing it, I haven't seen anything yet. In the meantime I just plasti-dipped mine until I find something. Here's a look at mine if your curious.

I ended up getting a GT grille with surround. If you can just replace the surround then you most likely can use an upgraded grille. Idk if it fits the v6 premium but if it'd not an option plastidip is the cheapest option.

Hello

I want to replace my silver pony with a black pony.

My 2011 premium had the black grill installed when I bought the car. The orginal grill was in the trunk.

so guys, when you plasti dipped, did you just newspaper off the grille and surrounds and just spray? or did you pull the whole grille off?

Left grille on. Taped around it but it is not necessary since it can peel right off. I'm just a kinda a nice and neat person. Here's a view of my process.

Depends on how many layers you use and how thick of coats you do

Really easy if applied correctly. If the coat of plasti-dip is to thin then I hear it can be kinda a pain but still comes off.

Yup, tape and large index cards is what I used. 5 coats should only be about 1 can.

wow that's it? haha that's awesome. i think i saw them selling 2 cans for like 25 bucks...i'll have to order some asap. this stuff seems so cool; i spent an afternoon watching their videos and how they were plasti-dipping entire cars then peeling it off. watching that peel was so satisfying...hahah

where did you guys buy yours? any links? i'm on dipyourcar.com and a can is like 7 bucks. that's awesome. i should probably buy 2 then just incase?

looks cool! i'm keeping my rear pony logo chrome; i like how it looks.

for now, i'm just going to do the trim, and in the future MAYBE do the pony, but i think it'll look cool being chrome. i just think the chrome trim on the black car makes it stand out much more than white, red, etc, and to me, like i said, the chrome seems more towards like sedan than sports car.

anyway, went to home depot, got 2 cans for 5.98 each! 12 bucks total. that's awesome. they also had white there....white would look cool for hash marks or something maybe. i saw a video where a guy did black hash marks on a black car, and the matte black actually looked cool. maybe i'll do that.

i think this is gonna come out awesome, and maybe in the future i'll do my wheels!

It is an extremely easy project. Here are the pics I took of mine. I plastidipped mine while waiting for my Roush upper grille to come in. I was replacing the grille but thought I'd plastidip it while I wait just to see what it would look like.

If I remember correctly, I used about 5 coats, waiting 20 minutes between each coat. Here is the before and after pics that I took. Hope it helps! (I dipped the surround & pony at the same time)

Just remember dont take long to remove the tape or whatever you use or you might peel off the plastic dip

good advice! didn't know this. so what if I'm waiting like 100 minutes (20 minutes per coat) and i finally pull it off at the end... will it potentially pull it off?

looks great! black looks so much better without the chrome. I'm gonna keep my pony chrome for now.

I wouldnt really say 20 min, ive plastic dipped soo many things and i only wait about 10 min between coats but then again here in Texas weather isnt cold so it cures quick. The dip Should be fine but just take it easy when removing tape, pull away slowly and it will look awsome at the end.

sweet! yeah I'm gonna give it a try once weather warms a bit... we're in a warm thaw right now so maybe this weekend I'll give it a whirl. I still can't wash my whole car yet bc it hasn't been a month since my hood got painted. when you wash plasti dip does it ruin it at all?
