Leather Seats

Hello all,

I wish I had more time to look for a stang with leather seats when I bought them, but it was quite a fast turnaround from my last vehicle so I didn't have much of a choice. I hate the "stone" cloth material, doesn't even match my car...

I was wondering what would be the best route to go for leather seat replacement? Covers maybe? Anyone have any experience with the covers?

Any help would be appreciated!

Definitely go with the pull off covers and do it yourself. You will save alot of $$$. For instance, when i was looking for quotes when i did mine, the dealer quoted $4,000. Their 3rd party vendor quoted $2,000. And ebay had take offs for 400-500.

It will be painstaking and you will cut your hands up. But it is worth it. I did mine by myself. Took 4 hours. They look amazing. Looks as good as factory.

If you cant use hog ties to secure the leather covers to the seat, use zip ties and cut off the excess. That is what i did and they hold great. You would never guess.

Just be careful when removing the lower side plastic shrouds. As to not snap the things holding them on. Or you will need to replace them as they wont sit snug on the seat anymore and they will just hang there.

Ill get those then, I was imagining the seats themselves to be at least 1k.

Are they pretty easy to install?

Not really. Watch "How-To Install Leather Interior on a Ford Mustang" on YouTube
How-To Install Leather Interior on a Ford Mustang: https://youtu.be/AGDQC-8byGw

I referred to that video alot during my painful install. Very rewarding if you pull it off because you will save like $500.

Sweet! Thanks for the info, I was looking at racing seats, but as a DD I would probably hate them after a while...

These should do just the trick. Did you also do the rear seats as well?

Now I will provide the ugly truth behind my install.

I originally purchased the entire leathers seats from another Mustang (airbags still good). However! After installing them, it was triggering the airbag light. So i swapped back in the old seats and the light went away. So in the end, i swapped just the covers.

It seems the airbag modules in these cars are programmed to only talk to one another. If you try to introduce a part that was not originally installed, the car will not recognize it. Unless you know someone who can reprogram all the safety restraint modules, just get the covers.

Thankfully, the rear seats do not have airbags in them. So since i purchased the entire seats originally, the back seat was an easy swap.

I did the same thing. Got take offs from Roush on eBay for 400. Install was easy as pie. Take your time as stated. Also disconnect the battery so as not to disturb the airbags. I also installed heated seats into mine. Again eBay specials for 75 bucks. They work great. Here are some pics of my install. And the back seat was stupid easy takes 5 min

I will warn you, if you change to leather seats, you will want the leather door panel inserts because it won't match anymore D:

Unfortunately, you cannot obtain the door panel inserts by themselves. You have to buy the entire door panels. Which I did ($600). All in all, my car is a Premium now except having Sirius radio. You can see from my pic album. Has Premium cluster and everything now. Unfortunately, the wife didn't like my spending spree.

Looks like something I can do myself. It looks a whole lot better than that crap stone cloth stuff.

I really don't mind the panels, especially if I have to replace the whole panel... but as long as the seats are nice I wont mind a bit!

I am still rocking my stock door panels. I have seen a few sets I would love to pick up that are upgraded but it's hard to justify spending 400+ on them.

Just depends if you want the entire premium look/feel or if you are content with the Base model. For me, I wasn't. I really wanted a Premium but with the end of year sales, all of the ones in Austin and San Antonio were sold. So it was up to me to mold the car how I wanted it.

I did not do anything to my door panels, and I do not install the premium cluster or pony lighting which you would also need to imitate a premium car. All I really wanted was the seats. If I find a good enough deal, I might do those things later but for now, the leather is cool enough.

I'm assuming you are referring to this listing:

http://ebay.com/itm/161634414988?nav=SEARCH

Not such a great deal when you look at the condition of those front seats lol.

I have heard that Katzkins are a better quality but no actual first hand proof.

Who here has Katzkins or has used their product?

I have seen both stock and the above and it is a better quality leather. I have the stock leather mainly because I got it off a car that had 10 miles on it for 400 bucks. Plus all the holes are already cut and the fit was amazing. Little bit more massaging needed for a new aftermarket set. But they are nice. Typically WAY more expensive than 550. If that seller is legit on eBay selling katskin leather than that's pretty impressive. I would also add I don't like the fact that their logo is stitched into the leather in most cases. Not my cup of tea.

I have them, they are much better than the OEM material. Now they do not have the holes for things like the headrest posts pre-cut, but that is easily taken care of while doing the install.

I bought my seats from that particular vendor, they are legit. There is no logo on the seats themselves, just a small Katzkin label on the side bolster.
