Speed Limiter

Okay guys, i know the speed limiter is supposed to be at like 113-115mph. Yesterday i managed to get up to the 140 range. I was also running the Torque app on my phone which sycns up with the ECU so im assuming my speedometer wasnt off. I was wondering how this happened. I dont (to my knowledge) have a tune. I was hoping somebody could share some insight.

I have a friend who bought a house that was owned by some old farm dude a while back and he had a landing strip there for his crop dusters and stuff. My buddy doesnt have anything like that so we use it to mess around.

Hahaha "mexico". But in all seriousness I live in Tampa and sometimes take trips to central Florida where there are empty long straight country roads. I've seen pictures of roads in the everglades that are empty and straight for as far as the eye can see, hopefully I'll be able to visit there one day.

That sounds like a blast, what kind of condition is it in?

For the most part its excellent. Theres a couple areas that are cracking up but the bad areas are all in the same general area so its easy enough to avoid.

What year is your stang? I got mine to like 118 but then I let off, I have a 14, there has been speculation that the driveshaft may have been fixed late 2013

Is there anyway to tell if they fixed the driveshaft issue on mine? I bought it used. I was looking into replacing the driveshaft before track days this summer, but if its already all good then i guess theres no point

If you can get your car high enough you can just check if it is a solid one piece

If it's used, it may have a tune on it that disables to speed limiter

I bought a 2014 still has a 2 piece with the 113-115 limiter tuning it out and going over 120ish makes the driveshaft go nuts and eventually come at you through the floor. Lol

Try to get over 115. Otherwise, without driving a car before/after a tune, you probably wont know the difference if you didnt already know it was tuned.

Assuming this is a recently purchased car.
Private party or dealer?
I assume dealer could tell.

The dealer should be responsible to confirm whether it was sold with an OEM or an aftermarket tune.
And not just a statement like, "as far as we know" or similar.
They should physically plug into the OBD and find out. Even if you have to point out to them that it could have safety ramifications.

Also check to see where car red lines at, sometimes the tune will raise it.

Mines a 2014 built around May or so and I unfortunately can verify that I cap out at 118... Why put Z rated tires and a 160 speedo on a car that can only hit 118 in stock form? Also have the 2 piece driveshaft - should it be only 1?

2 piece is fine as long as you have that speed limiter, if you decide to raise it or completely take it off in the future it is highly recommended to get that 1 piece aluminum one but I suppose not mandatory....

I too have a "landing strip" and can confirm it cuts out at 115 on my 2014. I got passed by a Toyota tercel.

I'll wager a beverage it's been tuned. If the dealer said you still have the remainder of the factory wtty ( or if CPO) you may have a legal case as a tune MAY void some of your wtty.

of course so can racing......

idk if I would mention the 140 part, I would just mention tune fears and have them check to see if they can tell.

Kind of on topic, wouldn't z rated tired give a better feel at higher speeds even if the limiter doesn't hit the standard tire rating?

Like at 80-85 would z rated feel more stable than the all seasons on my base? At 85+ it starts to feel a little loose.
