2012 Snapped Sway Bar

So I bought my 2012 about 7 weeks ago with around 12k miles. I put around 4k miles on it since then and one day heard a rattling near the exhaust area.

Took it to the dealer, and turns out I snapped my rear sway bar. Is this a common problem for Mustangs? I thought you had to be pushing a lot of power to straight up snap one of those.

Good news is that it's fully covered by my bumper to bumper warranty.

Snapped the sway bar, end link or end link bolt?

They told me the sway bar snapped and a link is broken, too. They're replacing the entire sway bar assembly next week when the parts get in. I'm not too mechanically inclined, but I'm guessing the part was worn and driving it rough just caused enough stress to break it?

16k on a sway bar is not many miles.

I didn't think so, either. The car still has original Ford bumper to bumper until May, plus I purchased an extended bumper to bumper 3rd party warranty through the dealer. So if stuff breaks, it's covered!

I want to add an Axle Back exhaust this month, but I'm nervous they won't fix easy issues like this if I do it.

First I've heard of that too. I have read of one case of the stock PHB failing; it's a tube and a rock or some other debris dented the wall of the tube, leading to failure later on.

But the sway bar is solid, so I'm guessing manufacturing defect or metal fatigue from some romping by the first owner.

An axleback exhaust wont void any warranties. All it is is for sound. No power is being changed. And a muffler wont cause a sway bar to break. In order to void a warranty, they need to prove the mod caused it or was involved.

Sway bar or pan hard bar? There have been a few reports of pan hard bars breaking.
