Why the hate for Autos?

Bought my first mustang, 2013 v6

Having alot of fun since all ive ever owned is little compact hondas and toyotas, this is a whole different world.

Question is how many of you went with manual vs auto? what are the advantages or disadvantages of both.

I chose auto and still having a ton of fun.

Manuals you feel the car and can have more fun. Autos in my option aren't fun unless your doing donuts or burning out. Manuals it feels so good to shift through all the gears at full throttle

I agree. I've had 3 auto sports car and they just aren't as fun. My 14 is the 6 speed and it really is fun to drive. I wouldn't say I hate the autos, but after having both I prefer the manual.

13 is a great year. The tail lights were switched to a more aggressive look imo. You get a free black decklid panel that didnt come with the 11/12. The gauges for the premium were improved with an LCD. The headlights went to HIDs.

The hoods of the GTs got heat extractors. With that being said, you can have the same extractors installed on the v6 hoods. You couldnt get the same exact ones on the 11/12 due to those hoods having the power dome/small cowl. I believe in 2013, the Autos started to get the Performance Package. Whereas with 11/12, it was only for Manuals.

The people who hate automatics are usually the same guys that will make excuses when they lose to one. Autos shift a lot faster than manuals.

Although I like the 13/14 tail lights more than 11/12, I would have been fine with Ford skipping the gloss black decklid panel. To me, it conflicts with the stripes. Striped cars should have colored decklid panels. I also think cars without stripes would look better with a matte or flat black panel instead if it had to be something. I don't hate it, just my opinion.

My opinion is for a daily driver a manual is the way to go. It's too much fun. For a track car you can't beat the auto. As stated it shifts faster and no human error. I met a guy with a 2012 bolt on with a personal best of 11.2. Stock converter still.

I had a 1969 Chevy nova SS with 4 on the floor. You had to run a zoom clutch and by the end of the night your left leg was all in. Then a 1977 Pontiac trans am. 400 turbo with a 3000 rpm stall speed. Never looked back! Never shifted again. Actually the bama tunes do more for the autos! It makes the shift points so much faster and higher!! No give me a fast shifting, consistent automatic anytime.

For drag racing that is true. Although, those of us who autocross or do track days would have to disagree, In that case it would be flipped. Auto for DD and then manual for the track.

I didnt know you could get a kit and cut out the insert for the hood extractors, I thought if you wanted this look you had to buy an OEM 13/14 GT hood?

Manuals vs auto is a life choice. For a DD with lots of S&G driving, shifting gets old fast. For a road car doing lots of curves, it is fun. The auto will always beat the manual in MPG and shifting speed. Think about the end of a long day of hard work. You are dead tired. Do you want to shift?

Haters gonna hate.

Ray, welcome and enjoy the ride. I chose the manual as I knew I wanted the V6 performance package and in 2012 that was the only way Ford packaged it. The V6's are a performance bargain that look great and are made (mostly) in the USA. Now get out there and buy some mods for it.

Hello

I can drive a manual but I choose an automatic.

Why?

Easier to drive and if others in my family need to drive the car they can. Most younger people do not know how to drive a manual.

I'm 56 and after driving mini vans and compacts for the last 35 years. Getting into a V6 mustang was a SHOCK!! Bought it because I wanted a convertible to cruise in....what I bought was a great handling, surprising power house! Automatic or stick ....take your pick. But the mustang is just flat out, a blast to drive! Like they said, mod up and have some fun!

It is what you like

Automatics are good.
Manuals are good.

If someone really think it is fun to shift gears it is good for them to get a stick.

My last car was a stick and my Mustang is an Automatic. I learned one good lesson, NO MORE STICKS FOR ME.
The automatic in my 2012 works perfect. It shifts quick when accelerating, It shifts a little softer just normal driving. It has a little button on the side of the shifter that locks out 6th. gear. It does everything "WELL" and I really like it.

Both transmissions are exceptionally excellent and all it comes down to is what a person wants. ( Only the shifters in the manuals need to be replaced with a good aftermarket one for performance driving.) The Automatics need nothing.

That works until you are out somewhere and a situation arises where you are unable to drive (medical, arrested, etc.) and the car and your passenger (and sometimes you) are stranded because they can't drive. At least with an auto, I know if something were to happen where I am unable to drive, my wife can. I've had the car for two years and she has yet to drive it once. I've even asked her several times just so she is familiar with the car if something happened to me and she still doesn't want to, and that is an automatic. Just because you have an auto doesn't mean a bunch of other people will be driving it.

There's nothing wrong with autos.....for women and seniors. Yes, autos are faster. Some of us don't give a crap, we don't race, we just ENJOY driving it. And how do you enjoy somthing that only has a Stop button and Go button? Lil bit boring. Like driving daddy's Buick.
