Ordered a Tuner

After a long and frustrating winter, and a bit of body work due to ice falling off the roof and into my car, I am back zipping around town and loving it.

I finally ordered a tuner from AM - Bama SF4/X4, and requested the three standard tunes but with Street -87/Performance -91(ethanol free)/Racing -93 octane. I plan to use the Performance tune most of the time, and think the Ethanol Free gas makes a big difference.

Looking forward to trying it out.

Dave

Nice! I've been wanting to get a tuner and CAI, just waiting for the tax return to come in. 👍

How expensive is the Ethanol Free gas? Don't think it's allowed to be sold in MA.

They only sell it in 91 Octane - 2.79 but its a Fastrac station so with the discount card - 2.69 Regular 87 with ethanol is 2.49

Worth it to me

Wow! That sounds like a realy good price. I assumed it would be a lot more expensive.
Good luck with the tune!

how do you know if it's ethanol free? here in NJ, they don't say if it has it or doesn't. I just assumed it didn't.

It is advertised as Ethanol free and branded that way at the pumps. All the other stations and octanes have ethanol.

Tuner received today. I haven't had a lot of time to play but I am impressed for sure with the Performance tune. I'm going to run it for a while and see how it goes. I wont be trying the race tune for a while.

Not bad - ordered this weekend - tuner shipped Monday and received today (I'm in NY)

I should have done this last year!

Bama no longer offers the Hybrid tune. They try to make all three tunes balanced throughout the power band like the Hybrid tune, So they say there is no need for a hybrid tune. This is what a Bama employee told me at least, they basically said he hybrid tune was no longer available.

Pony, what tune do you run. I use my car for daily commute. I am not sure if performance or race tune would be better. I still have stock wheels so I may not use race tune yet. But. My friend tries the 93 race tune and he said he can not go back to the 91 tune because he is used to the power.

So I assume these tunes I just got are not the V2 tunes correct?

Any one from AM know when the V2s will be out for the V6

In the mean time, I'll still enjoy these tunes

I always run a 87 performance tune, there just isn't enough of a difference in performance for me to justify the extra cost. Imo the 87 performance tune balances performance and fuel cost well. But I'm also on a tighter budget than most people.

I really want the tune to help improve throttle response. The stock throttle response is very poor.

A tune would definitely help that. The throttle response was the first thing I noticed.

Hey Dave - Thanks for taking the time to have a review posted up! I'm really happy to hear that you're enjoying Bamas Tunes and the Tuner thus far! It's nice to get into the car with a little more pep in her step right!? You're going to be dragging Older GT's all over the road now! Despite the weather breaking and warmer temps Bama's been a couple days behind but I'm really happy to hear that they we're able to have this calibrated and shipped out to you so quickly!

In regards to the V2's they're not out just yet and should be shortly but I would assure you that the 3.7L Tunes have be extensively overhauled over the past 9 months and they're top notch!

Let me know if you're to have any other questions at all and enjoy!

Alex

Hey Kevin - Long time no see - I don't think the waits going to be that extensive and I know that they're working full steam ahead on them as we speak along with a few other projects - Once they're released I'll be all over the forums letting everyone know!

You're right on the money sticks123! They're two of the best mods that we can get installed on our cars to make the most profound difference in performance!

Bud and Pony - Good question and thanks Pony - That's absolutely correct and they've essentially incorporated all of the greatest aspects from the Hybrid and had them integrated into their latest and greatest tunes!

If anyone has any other questions don't hesitate to let us know and I'm here to help!

I am a little afraid to void the warranty but most times nothing goes wrong until it expires.

THIS!!!! Which is why I said F it and reprogrammed my car with a Premium cluster and got the Bama tuner. Now if THAT doesn't void a warranty, idk what will.

With the incorrect miles now showing on your premium cluster, what did your dealer say? On my end because I had them do the programming they just confirmed what was on the original and what was on the new one and just added the difference.

Dealer wont know! Lmao jk. Most of the maintenance myself. So no biggie. As you can see, i know my way around a car and can do alot of stuff (besides rebuilding the engine or transmission) myself.

When you tune does the dealer have a way of knowing that you tuned it?

Only if you leave the tune in the car when taking it to the dealer. Always revert back to stock before letting them service it. This also prevents you from having a locked tuner / problem if they re-flash the ECU while doing other services. The sometimes do this as a part of a TSB etc...without the owners approval or knowledge.

They will know if you have tuned it even if you take the tune off. So either way they won't be surprised.

I have heard that the SCT tuner does not leave a footprint per the SCT web site and many posts here:
"The X4 Flash device backs up your factory PCM program during installation should you ever need to return your vehicle to the stock program. Restoring your vehicle to the stock PCM program is as easy as selecting "Return to Stock" from the device menu. With all SCT devices, once returned to stock, there is no footprint or trace of the tune in the vehicle's PCM."

however....I do not work for Ford so can not say for sure. It is best practice just the same to revert to stock before any servicing. Ford would of course want you to believe they can tell..even if they can't. SCT would want you to think they can't. Good business for them. I believe they may be able to count the number of flashes to the ECU...so could assume if it was new and there was no record in Fords system of what it was flashed too or flashed only at the factory...they could assume you flashed it. If you don't give them a reason to check then I doubt they ever would.

No first hand experience here.

I'm surprised there aren't any Ford techs / service guys here that own Mustangs. Surely someone knows.
