Okay guys, I want to achieve an aggressive and deep sound/tone on my V6 and I couldn't decide between the s types and the ataks. I read that ataks are loud and raspy and s types are the middle ground between touring and ataks. I'm slightly afraid that the s types would be too quiet for my taste so i was wondering, would resonators tone down the ataks to make them sound more aggressive? I think I saw somewhere that automatics have resonators in them, could someone confirm?

I believe both autos and manuals have resonators. My auto did for sure. They're located between the cats and the crossover section of the midpipe. They're small but they're there.
Don't know about the resonators but I have S-Types on my automatic and love the sound. The closest thing I can think of is if you've ever heard NISMO exhaust systems on a 350Z. That's what I think it sounds like. Not a deep rumble, but definitely an aggressive gurgle that makes me happy. Last meet I went to nearly every other car was a V8 and many of the guys were very impressed by the sound.
honestly, the stingers and ataks sound identical to me. I see no difference in either of them when I watch videos comparing mine to theirs. the ataks just get loud as hell when you rip on it. it's fun, though.
here's some videos of my ataks. mine is a 6 speed, though.
I like them. when you're cruising normal speeds, you can't tell there's an exhaust. when you take off and floor it, then you hear it, so that's a good thing. also, no drone.

Went for a drive today and almost forgot how it sounds like with the windows down, it's been in the 60s today and it was perfect and to answer your question, I am more impress with the sound now compared to when I had it last Oct. I love this s type compared to my touring.

no. stock anything on the GT or GT500 are muffled. the GT500 uses a type of borla exhaust, but i think people compare it more towards the touring/stinger than the ATAK. if you put ATAK's on a GT500, it would be even louder.
don't know about the same volume or not, but i mean, listen to a stock GT500...from what i've heard, those are Borla manufactored axlebacks, and i believe they're modeled more after the touring or S-type..one of those. sounds diff from the GT stock ford axlebacks...so an ATAK system on the GT500 would def be louder than stock
the ATAK's are pretty damn loud...they may have the same volume, but obviously the GT500 will have more depth and tone
Anyone have thoughts on the FRPP sport axel backs?Apparently they are Ford's version of the Borla S Type? Just based of YouTube clips, they sound the deepest to me. The ATAKS are certainly loud, but the FRPP just seem like they have the deepest tone. Maybe check those out
Based on YouTube videos, it seems to me as if they sound similar to the s types. I don't know about real life though. Anyway, I've made up my mind and are going to order the s types. Thanks for your feedback guys!

I have an automatic and I have both the Touring and the s type, for me the Touring sounds good if you want tame and low rumble sound but decided after a few months of owning it and would like to get more sound so decided to get the stype and woowww I'm impress had it for 6 months now and still impress the heck out of me every time I start it..

I received and installed the Borla S-Type exhaust this past week (thank you tax return), and I can second this. The first time I started it up after the installation was complete, I grinned ear-to-ear. As shunc01 mentioned, these are as quiet as stock when cruising, but punch it, and you'll turn some heads. I have already

Like the sound of the ATAK's in the above video, didn't notice the crackle/pop sound either, that was the only thing I don't care for. Think I am going to go with the ATAK's at the end of the month.
I had this same question. So I ended up buying a set of ATAKs. I also have shorty headers with frpp x pipe and I have to be honest. It was wayyyy too loud and obnoxious to be on a v6 for my taste. Sounded like crap to me. Also, it was really hard to hold a conversation over sync because the exhaust was so loud. I ended up trading for a set of s-types and I love them. Not as aggressive as the ataks and sound better IMO.
Listened to S type videos with headphones and I think in the long run they might be the right balance for me after all. They sound a little deeper to me on idle compared to the ATAK's and not sure over time that the ATAK's could become too loud for my taste. I think the S-type might be the right balance.
On auto they don't but if you use sport mode and use select shift they pop..

oh interesting. yeah i can get mine to pop loud even into 4th. it just depends on if you shift at high rpms or not. the quicker you shift the less the pop, which is why I guess auto doesn't pop.
If you downshift in sport mode in the auto you can definitely get some popping. Especially downshifting from 3-2 at about 40 mph.
I know I'm in the minority, but I freaking love the pop and gurgle.
