I'm running 3.73s in my auto and honestly I don't think it can get much better than that. I was told get 4.10s in my auto and believe me that would be way too much to handle in everyday driving. But just remember to get a well known shop to do the install since it's not an easy task.

Why is it that 4.10's would be too much to handle?

Don't just decide like that, do your homework, and once you think you've got it, do it once more to make sure. There are many things to consider here, highway rpm to gear ratio, mpgs, future mods, ect. Get what you want from your car and not always what everyone else suggests Their have been some that jumped the gun and got a "best" or "most popular" gear and were forced to like them, not naming any names.....

You are correct, but if the op is asking what gear will make his car fastest that most of us know, he might not be aware of the potential unwanted trade offs like higher rpm highway speeds and loss of mpgs. Just providing possible unwanted tradeoffs to the op.

Thanks for looking out bro, but I'll be clear. I don't care about miles per gallons I just want the smiles per gallon lol. I've read up on the effects on switching gearing and I'm willing to take my chances as long as my car feels faster.

A gear that is good for drag racing will not be the best for roll racing, and vice versa.

More gear is not always better on an auto, especially if the stock converter cant handle it.

Also depends on the rest of your mods - a very lethargic car will need more gear than one with a stronger powerband.

Also, What tires / suspension? This is an incredibly vague thread, with an incredibly vague question.

Alot of bad information.

The ones suggesting 4.10's for a auto, why don't you look at what the first gear ratio is in the transmission itself is, b4 you suggest

Tbf i told him he was correct about what would make his car faster, not necessarily agreeing that it would be 4.10s. I drive a manual, and was just informing the op of potential unwanted trade offs.

It does come down to more than just that though. I honestly believe its too much gear for the car, not to mention those are likely pretty dedicated setups. Your average joe blow on the street isnt going to perform well with a 4.1 and auto.

I have 4.10's in my manual. But it's also setup for them.

A auto will may feel faster but I guarantee its not.

I went 3.73...it's a great gear for this car. I have a automatic. I don't think I would go to 4.10's for ME! It is explosive out of the hole .....rolling it's strong too!

It's like 4.1 or 4.2 to 1. So that 1st gear paired with 4.10s would be ridiculously short

I read up on American muscle and one of the AM experts (Zach) said that 4.10's would be good if I were to stay NA because they will provide with a torquier power band, but that I would lose some top end speed. (I don't think losing top end is a good thing) And he suggested 3.73's if I was going to add boost down the road.

I've been told 3.31s or 3.55s if you add boost. I guess this is just a personal preference thing at the end of the day. Someone may like 4.10s while some may not.

I had 3:73 gears installed in my 3.7 automatic and love them. Huge difference in off line acceleration compared to those 2:73 fuel saving gears i had. Also my 3:73 gears pull hard mid speeds and higher speeds. 😆

The what gear ratio debate is always full of opinions and you will get all sorts. I have no regrets on my 3:73 gears and glad I took the advice of the many members on here who recommend 3:73 gears.

Technically, any gear steeper than what is currently installed. The popular ones are 3.73 and 4.10 as has already been stated. I will say, that I'm running 3.73s in my auto and am more than happy with them. I feel like 4.10 would have been too much.

+1,
I have 3.73s in my manual and think they r great. I've been lucky enough to have seat time in 2.73, 3.31s,3.55s and my 3.73s. For me anything over 3.73s would be a tad overkill on gear but that's just me.
