Tire upgrade

Hey guys so I need new tires and was wondering what you guys suggest. I have the stock 17 inch rims and was looking for a guys summer tire. I was hoping to keep cost down as to being in highschool but I would love to get the best bang for your buck. THANKS

How many miles did you get out of these tires?

I'm partial to nitto having literally owned almost every tire they sell. An invo or neogen would be my recommendation. You really cant put much on a 7" rim, (i think they're 7, maybe 7.5) so what you do put has to count.

I love my Cooper Zeon RS3-S 's I think the are a good deal too. I have 245/45/18's on my 8x18" Pony rims and they have much better traction than the stock P-zeros. They were designed for Mustangs too.

Dont buy anything for the stock 17in wheels that come with the v6. Go on craigslist and find some wheels

He is in high school. Maybe he doesn't have $1500 to buy rims and tires.

He doesn't have to spend 1500 to get a better wheel and tire set up. He can easily find some 18 or 19 take offs on Craigslist sometimes already with tires for less than he would pay for new tires for the 17" rims he already has. I think drift was just trying to be helpful and suggest looking because deals can be had. I agree with him. And if he is like most of us on here, he isn't going to be happy with some 17" stock rims much longer. So in 6 months he ends up swapping them for a different set anyway and wasting that original investment in those 17" tires.

By the time he is tired of the 17 inch rims his new tires will need replacing. I don't think he is going to find tires and rims for less than just tires. Unless they are low tread or scuffed up rims.

I bought a set of 19" takeoffs with brand new tires from the factory for 550. Guys take off brand new stuff and don't see the value in it. Plus they live somewhere it can't be stored and have to get rid of it. It's worth a look. That's all I'm saying and what superdrift was saying. That's all. It's up to him to decide what he can or can't spend. Let OP say that's not what he wants. He is here for advice. That's what he is getting correct?

Hey guys yeah $1500 isn't exactly what I'm looking to buy, but I did look on Craig's list and I'm trying to get a set of the gt brembo wheels which I think looks awesome. The guy wants $650 for all 4 and the nitto's that come stock with them does that sound about right?

What about some factory take offs? 18" wheels with Pirrelis. Not a huge fan of them but compared to the 17"s and im sure youre running the Michilins which honestly belong more on a Focus than a Mustang. Im sure you could find a cheep set of 18" take offs for under $500 for all 4 wheels and tires.

Check the tread!! Remember if there 19's ....they are a more expensive tire to replace them 18's later on.

I'll cut you a good deal on some 18" pony package rims when I get my Brembos.

This is true. Or they can come with one other type but I can't remember which one that is at the moment. I think they are goodyears and they are a very expensive tire.

Both the pirellis and the goodyears are extremely expensive ($375 per tire when I looked last year). I am going to be getting rid of one of my spare sets of brembo wheels because 19" street tires and R Compounds are way too expensive (also the wheels weigh a bloody ton, and are way too narrow, will be going to an 18x11 all around, difference in tire cost buys my $1,400 wheels by the second set).

Proving to my fellow racers that the disdain that some GT drivers have for V6 drivers is unfounded, one results archive at a time since 2013.

For a budget tire, you can get several Asian brands for $75+. For the best tire for the money, you can get the Continental's all season tires. Tire Rack has the Continental TrueContact for $100/ea which may be a great price. If you go to 18" rims, add $30-50 per tire for your efforts.
