My car smells hot

I just bought my 2013 mustang a couple months ago and I've noticed when I drive kind of wreck less ( a lot of WOT) my car starts to smell hot. I don't know how to describe the smell other than that. My temperature gauge is always right in the middle so I know my car isn't running hot. Could this just me burnt rubber from the cheap "Tiger Paw" tires that the dealer put on? The car only has 30k miles on it.

This is normal. Many people have mentioned experiencing the same thing. I have even noticed it myself.

Interesting. I've been meaning to ask about it because I've noticed it since I got the car. It makes me feel better that this is common though

I notice it if I have some spirited driving on the way home. I make sure to leave the garage door open for an hour or so after I arrive, since in the past I have noticed that if I drive home and immediately shut the garage door, go inside, then run back out for a minute to the store or something, the temperature in the garage is noticeably warmer.

I have an auto and had the same experience when I first bought it brand new and it has 20k miles on it now and I don't notice the smell anymore even after running it hot and at high rpms. It's just a pony car so it'll get pretty hot but it's nothing dangerous as far as I know. Now if you start seeing smoke that's another thing! lmao

My car smells hot

Good to know! I was scared I was wearing out my clutch prematurely, even after conservative driving. Now I'm pretty confident it's not my clutch. Thanks

Yes it definitely has the smell of burnt plastic! It's a pretty faint scent but it's definitely noticeable.

Mine does it too. I thought it was the tires at first, but it generally does it when I go WOT. Automatic as well.

When I used to get on my Roush, I'd always get a strong diff. fluid smell, and the exhaust would smell really bad, like a sewer. Which never really a hot smell. But don't get the smells anymore, so doesn't matter...

Mine does it too... assumed it was from the headers heating up and burning off any crud that was on them.

....are you talking about the catalytic converter getting hot? To the best of my knowledge it is the hot gasses passing through the CC. My car smells like it everyday 😜

The only time I have ever had an issue with a hot smell from my car was when I was using a spare 2.73 axle that I did not yet have a torsen installed in at NCCAR. I had horrendous burning clutch smell for about then laps, then never again, because my Hoosiers had destroyed the carbon clutches in the trac-lol diff. I never get a burning or hot smell when I am running a T2R (just a lot of growl during tight corners, such as into a parking space).

Proving to my fellow racers that the disdain that some GT drivers have for V6 drivers is unfounded, one results archive at a time since 2013.

Just don't park on anything that will ignite

I think what it is is the catalytic converters getting very hot just like they are supposed too.
Nothing to worry about because it is not only Mustangs but all cars do this when run hard and put up hot.

Ok, so I can confirm its not catalytic converter. Drove hard around the hood tonight with my girls, using manual **** I was driving HARD. Got home and it smelled like burning car. I think it's just normal. God it's fun getting the car to smell like that.

Been wondering the same thing here. I can't tell you how many times I've checked under the hood for a leak/spill for smelling something.
