I know another exhaust ?

Ok I know there's 100 post on this but I have to ask because I'm stuck in a dilemma. I have an all stock expect for roush ab set up. I like the sound but would like to remove some of the rasp and possibly get a deeper tone. What would be my best option? I'm stuck between changing out stock resonators and using after market or just keeping the stock resonators and going with shorty headers. I'm not worried about money so don't toss numbers I want an honest opinions. Thanks in advance.

I heard shorty headers can help tame some raspiness. Definitely don't get the chrome ones unless you like blue headers after a few weeks. lol

I actually do like the blue chrome lol. All of my cars have always had chrome. I know some of u hate the look but I love it. I usually get four years out of a set and then swap them for new.

You crazy crazy man. lol. Well if you don't ALREADY have the shorty headers but are working towards more of a performance build, dropping 300 on some chrome shorty headers may not be a bad idea.

Then if it is still too raspy, you could always go from there and check headers off your list.

RaceRed - Do you have a pic of the color change? Wonder if it is worth saving the $100 and people could go with normal chrome ones.

Nvm! I found some on AMs website. Idk, might still go with Ceramic myself.

They don't turn blue. They turn into a crappy brown-ish color. Buy the ceramic.

Hey Kevin, my headers are over a year old, they still look good for chrome. Word of advice, even if you don't care about the potential color change I would go with the ceramic ones, the heat these chrome ones produce is off the charts! If I had to do it again I'd go ceramic hands down.

If the shorty headers don't do enough, the next step, in my mind, would be "H-Pipe" or MAC ProChamber (For Stock Cats), replacing the stock Hybrid X-pipe.

You could do an H pipe, but you're going to change the general sound/tone of the exhaust. I'd watch some videos before committing. I've also heard that they mellow out after a few thousand miles *shrug*

I've already got the roush ab and its plenty broke in lol... how can there really be that big of a difference between chrome and ceramic for heat...?

Ceramic dissipates the heat better. Just the plain chrome ones absorb heat and get really hot.

ceramic acts as an insulator.
More specifically...
"It may be useful to consider why metals are such good thermal conductors in thinking about the question. Heat can be transferred by atomic-scale vibrations, or in the case of metals, by electrons moving freely within the lattice. Since ceramics are made up of ions, the electronic contribution to thermal conductivity is practically zero. The only way for heat transfer within the ceramic is through the atomic-scale vibrations in the crystalline lattice (phonons)."

makes sense thank you.... so if i ran with shorty headers your all saying it will remove rasp? I'm wondering if replacing the stock resonators would help too.? does anyone know where these are located and how long the stocks are?

The stock resonators are located immediately after the cats.
This is the first time I've heard of someone complaining about rasp with all OEM exhaust with exception of Roush ab.

I would take Strata197's suggestion and "watch some videos before committing."
Here's the Resonators...

well considering no one used a good recording device i find videos to be pointless.. i do like the rush sound but from the videos i heard before purchasing it sounds way different than i expected so idk.. i guess videos help but its so hard to really tell. i with alex over an am would have his crew compare some exhaust side by side like they do there stock vs bassani and stock vs whatever... why not do bola vs rush vs bassani vs etc. that would be fantastic. all they have to do is clip some videos together

Well actually I doubt if any of the numerous threads on exhausts would have been of any help on your question.

Those resonators appear to be about a foot long but never measured them.

Thank you very much. I think I'm gonna do the shorty headers and if I still don't like it I'm gonna go with longer resonators.

Does it sound any thing like this...

Then with Shorty Headers added.

(Around 1:05)

I'm sorry ,I'm sure I'll get some crap for this, but I'd get rid of the Roush's. They sound great on the GT's but not so much on the 3.7. If you want a nice rumble look into the Mac axle backs. I think it's a great sounding exhaust but it does drone.
