Automated carwash. Remove antenna?

Should the antenna be removed when going through an automated carwash?

I would definitely take it off. I don't go through any wash that touches my car.

Do you have a touch-free near you? I use one, and it helps keep my paranoia about car washes in check.

The argument against even touchless carwashes is that to be touchless they use harsher chemicals which strip the dirt off and other things you don't want it to. Even then touchless doesn't get your car really that clean as it misses major spots which over time builds up.

You shouldn't have to but it's good too take off the antenna or get a shorty attena. Looks better and you never have to worry about it.

Long story short stick with your own hand wash and two bucket method if you care about your paint. Otherwise... Swirls... Swirls everywhere

IF I went through one I would. it's easy-peasy to remove and if you look at the warnings at car washes stuff like antennas wipers & mirrors aren't their fault if it gets ripped off.

My problem is time. I have become very busy lately and can't seem to find the time to wash it myself. I'm not sure if there's a touchless carwash around but I'm sure there is. My girlfriend uses a particular carwash and it seems to do a pretty good job. I just hate my car being dirty all the time.

Automated carwash. Remove antenna?

Automatic car washes are terrible for your car especially ones with brushes. It only takes 30 or so minutes to wash the outside of the car im sure you can find some time. You have a black car, a touch car wash will eventually leave fine scratches in your paint.

I use the touchless carwash about every 2-4 weeks, mainly for the underbody wash in the winter. I then do a full hand wash and wax about once a year. I use NuFinish which really does stick around and keep the water beading for about a year as advertised.

I don't have the time and space where I live to do a hand wash every several weeks.

Turtle Wax Ice can be used on the black plastic w/o staining (ex Nufinish guy)

car washing is one of those chores I enjoy...your choice of music/beverage and only when the weather is good =

Yeah, but do the TurtleWax fumes make you high like with NuFinish? That's half the fun...LOL.

Kidding aside, I'll have to give the TurtleWax a try...coming back with an eraser to clean the haze off the black plastic trim is no fun.

What you don't understand is I'm very OCD when I hand wash my car. Washing alone takes me several hours. I can deal with what a carwash may miss cause I didn't do it. If I do it, it has to be as perfect as possible.

I'm right with you on that. I think the fastest that I have ever washed my car was about an hour and a half. And that was fast for me. Lol

Definitely turtle wax ice. I know there are better shining waxes but using turtle wax on everything is amazing.

I used to detail for a living maybe that made me faster Idk. I guess we have very different views on the subject. Maybe find a local detailed who does a hand wash and wax and pay him. Promote small business and get a professional cleaning for your vehicle.

Just used Turtle Wax Ice for the first time the other day. Not to bad and I don't have to worry about white molding on my black car any more.

Yeah, it could give a better shine but to be able to use it on everything is one heck of a trade off. No water spots on the windows and I use it on my wheels. It makes the brake dust a lot easier to get off.

I suggest taking the antenna off. Better safe than sorry and it takes 5 seconds. Then find someone to polish it. Unless you have a buffer and can do it yourself. If it hasn't been polished yet it will blow your mind the results when it's done.

Thanks all. I'll have to try the Turtle Wax Ice. I did remove the antenna before taking it through the wash. I may get a shorty as I experienced no loss of reception with the antenna removed. I actually drove about 50 miles or so with it off.
