I was told a replacement for my car should be in during march. We'll see if it comes to fruition.

My dealership didn't even have a clue when. Or even if at this point even after a letter.

The airbag recall has now doubled in size.

DOT Announces Recall Of Up To 40 Million More Takata Air Bag Inflators : The Two-Way : NPR

Seems unlikely that Takata will survive this as a company.

Sounds like it's probably every air bag Takata has ever made is junk. Yeah if I was them I'd shut it down I don't see how they could survive this either.

So as always the consumer has to pay for it? Takata seems to be working to slow, glad they r going out of business. Crap like this at a massive scale should have never passed quality assurance. With that said, why haven't car manufacturers and other air bag companies worked together to come to a quick resolution to all this?

Yeah this recall really sucks... Takata must be going out of business after this. My dad keeps telling me to take my car to the dealer and get it fixed like I want to be driving around with a grenade as an airbag.

May take mine in since I am on the Gulf of Mexico. If a wreck happens I'd rather be the guy who attempted to get the recall done but no parts were available for legal reasons. The Takata family probably doesn't use airbags in their cars...

Expanded Recall...

Doesn't work like that. They send you a letter saying they have your replacement. No, stop by and get it fixed. They contact you. Ask me how I know.

I haven't been contacted at all about the recall so I also have that. Not the original owner either...

I'm not original owner either, with either of mine. I got a letter saying "one" of my replacements came in. I asked when the other airbag replacement would come in, car has two recalls. They said I'll get another letter. So now I just have one recall for both of them. But it'll take years for them to fix all 40 million.

I know it. Just wondering if I should bother or leave it be for now. My decision to not care remains the same. Haha

I wonder how many lives have been saved by them.....simple mans guess is it's more than the 11 deaths that have been linked.

Took mine in and they said maybe in July. I could tell they have no clue when though.

Hopefully no wrecks that shoot shrapnel in my head.

I wonder how many have deployed with no issues vs. how many have injured / killed people?

From what I understand, about a dozen known deaths (with possibly two additional in Malaysia just mentioned) and 130+ injuries.

Massive Takata Airbag Recall: Everything You Need to Know – News –*Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

What's most concerning is its emerging that Takata may have known about the issues for some time but did little about it, which is reminiscent of the Ford Pinto gas tanks or the GM ignition cylinders...corporate greed, folks.

Of course they knew about it they should have used corrosion resistant components. They used cheaper metals to produce cheaper air bags. Someone made the decision what type of metal to use. Good thing is all the car companies used them so none of them can really knock the others.

With all testing standards, procedures in place, accountability etc etc... It is very very difficult to believe nobody knew. This is hands down a failure all around. This company deserves to rot and not come back.
I am an engineer and there is always a checker, but ultimately what I work on affects people and knowing that makes me even work harder at what I do. Even ten years later.

11 months... At least I never plan to sell the car. Because I don't think I could without it fixed and written proof as well.

Actually from what I have read the problem is the ammonium nitrate that Takata alone is using for igniter fuel because it was cheaper. Ammonium nitrate absorbs water from the air which causes the corrosion of the metal.

It is not illegal to sell a used car with an open recall.

Yeah, new vehicles only but they'd be taking a chance with there reputation to sell a used car with a known open recall.
On the other hand, used car salesmen don't have much of a reputation anyway.
