On the other hand, used car salesmen don't have much of a reputation anyway.

Massive Takata Airbag Recall: Everything You Need to Know – News –*Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

What's most concerning is its emerging that Takata may have known about the issues for some time but did little about it, which is reminiscent of the Ford Pinto gas tanks or the GM ignition cylinders...corporate greed, folks.

Not only deaths, they are injuries too. This is why i unplugged my air bag a few months ago. I put a one inch piece of electrical tape over the air bag light on the display so it doesn't bother me at night

Yup, once the mustang was involved values took an immediate hit. Also plenty of places refusing to take any of the airbag recall cars on trade.

Last I saw, estimates were 2019 or 2020 before all impacted vehicles have the takata inflators replaced.

Also replacement priority is based on age and geographic location. So the newer your car and the further north you live, the longer you'll have to wait than someone living in say Florida or Texas.

Got an update letter in the mail over the weekend. According to Ford replacement parts should be available in the 4th quarter of this year.

I got a letter from Ford today saying parts are now available and call your dealer for install. It also said in bold type "This is a permanent repair for your vehicle and must be performed even if you had an airbag inflator previously installed as an interim repair". There are some of those people on this forum I think. Quite a few people have posted that they got theirs replaced a year ago. I would guess that Florida cars are getting priority given our humidity. Now to explain to my dealer that I don't leave my vehicle for repair and need a time when they can install while I wait.

I'm in Florida and haven't heard anything about parts. Last letter I got was about a year ago.

That must be it. Mines a 2012 too. Older cars first. Mine was actually built on 06/28/2011 so it will be 5 years old next month.

Same here. Which translates to 2017.

How much would one get if they survived getting a face full of shrapnel?

[gallowshumor]They'd tell you that since the airbag deployed and the car was wrecked, they no longer were obligated to replace it.[/gallowshumor]

lol by now they probably have a settlement express service set up.

I did learn the hard way that men get a LOT less for injuries resulting in facial scars than women get. I tried to tell them my face was my money maker, but nobody was buying it.

Even If you get yours in January 2017 your car will be years younger than mine when the defective igniter is replaced. My car is nearly 5 years old now. Since this is an age related failure caused by moisture and corrosion, my igniter is far more likely to explode than your newer one. I think we can be happy that Ford got to us Mustang owners in time (at least so far). There have been no exploding Mustang airbags involved in fatalities and their have been plenty of deployments, as UTube will attest.

Had my recall performed today. They just happened to get a couple kits in on the day I had my oil changed and I immediately made an appointment. Don't wait on the dealer to call you, make the call, you could be happily surprised.

Just got another letter in the mail, makes like the third or fourth, about the air bag. It states that they will have a new assembly for our car available in the fourth quarter of the year. Christmas present maybe?

Haha, hard for me to trust the dealer. I don't know why but since I've had my car I've had 2 or 3 lean on it without my permission.

That's the other part of it I don't trust the dealers so much I'm willing to roll the dice on taking schrapnel in the neck. I've had too many problems with idiot high school dropout dealer mechanics.
