I'm with you Guys. Not sure I trust our local dealer enough to let them do the recall. We might decide to go 250 miles one way to another dealer we trust and have had good experiences with.

Well I had a dealership catch my car on fire performing a "Free" service I didn't even authorize them to do.

No it was a 2002 Camaro...Took it in at 5200 miles for a Warranty repair for a power window I think. They went ahead and performed the "Mr Goodwrench" 52 point inspection and oil change for FREE. They didn't ask they just did it who wouldn't want something for FREE right? Well the technician, Forest (no really, no joke his name was Forest) I didn't know this ahead time or it may have sent off some red flags. Well Forest spills power steering fluid on the exhaust manifold and just doesn't clean it up or nothing. So I leave dealer less than 4 miles down the road I smell something burning and smoke coming out from under the hood. I open the hood and you could the see liquid burning off the manifold. It starts to fully engulf the engine compartment and a guy who works for the power company runs over with a fire extinguisher and puts it out. It's burned up pretty good and I wish he never would have been there to put it out though. Bottom line is dealer or GM would not help me to get another car and mine had 6k worth of damage and melted wiring that they repaired and the car was never right. Fought with them for 6 months all GM would give me was $3500 off a future GM vehicle voucher that I had to present on arrival.

Man, that feels like just how Framingham Ford reamed me after destroying two sets of gears in the rear end (and crushing a rocker moulding in addition to other cosmetic damage in the process)...

I was a service writer for a dealer for a short time. It's frightening what goes on back there. I seriously wouldnt had let half of them even attempt to change my oil. One of them wanted to power flush a tranny that was slipping and had 100k miles. Scratched up cars and wheels are very common.

You've blown away what little hope I had left. Sadly you're telling the truth. Our shop foreman at work used to be a service manager for Ford. He frightens me with stories.... I think about them EVERY DAY.

Yeah I'll probably just end up trading it in. I'll end up taking it in to get the recall and coming home with something else.

Just got a letter last night from Ford saying my local dealer has the replacement parts for the recall, not sure I want to even get it done now with these horror stories.

My dealer said they have parts. From what I understand they are only replacing the inflator correct?

When I got to the dealer they said the 05-12 could be fixed now but they were still waiting on parts for the '13-'14's

Just saw on the news last night (5-25-2016) that this air bag deal may now extend into 2018! Apparently there are now more cars/types involved, and some may not get recalled or get a recall letter until 2018.

One consumer that found this out complained to the state senate (Florida), who said this is unfair. Basically, the airbag manufacturer expects folks to continue driving around with a grenade in their steering wheel (quote by senator). The consumer reported that he will be trading in his car to avoid a potential injury. Good luck with that, as most dealerships will not touch a trade in that requires an air bag recall.

I see even more class action suits happening with this.

Expanded Recall...

You can trade it in the dealership does not care. They don't have to deal with it. They just sell it to the next person and a few months later the new owner will get the recall notice.

You really think a stealership won't use the recall as an excuse to lowball you even more on the trade-in?

And it's already happened to a member here. He reported in a post that a dealership would not take his Mustang in on a trade, as they also could not get the parts to have the airbag replaced, and that the car would sit on their lot unsold; no one wants to buy a car with a faulty airbag.

Would you buy one?

I just got off the phone with Ford Corporate customer service 800 392 3673. I inquired on my 2012 Mustang located in Colorado. The airbags are being shipped to dealers, highest risk areas first. I was told I would be receiving a letter between now and the end of September.

Taking my 2008 on Monday. Got letter earlier in month. I live in Georgia. Dealer told me they got 80 parts in. When those are gone, not sure when they will get more. Guess I got lucky.

My appointment to get the item replaced is June 14th. at 8AM.
I'm just hoping that the person doing the exchange knows what they are doing and don;t screw up my absolutely perfect Mustang.
I am a nervous wreck just thinking about this.
My steering wheel is straight with my front wheels.
I have "NO" rattles.
All of my buttons on my steering wheel work just fine.
I have "NO" pry marks or scratches on or near my steering wheel.

I'm almost positive the parts changer they pulled from the oil change department to do these recalls is not going to do a good job on this recall that should never be.
Ronnie

Yeah I'm kind of weighing the odds of the dealer screwing something up VS the odds of crashing and taking a piece of schrapnel to the jugular.

This is a no brainer install guys. If your dealership manages to mess it up, that would be quite a feat.

Expanded Recall...

Took my dealer about 4 minutes to install the steering wheel airbag. Stood in the service bay and watched them swap it.

Always tell them your are super picky with your car. They will make damn sure the tech knows it because they dont want trouble. Id also tell them you dont want an inspection, just the recall. I dont like those clowns getting under my hood.

True, but as a former service writer, I can attest that I would pick the best mechanic when I knew the car owner was going to rip my arse if they made a scratch.
