Stock H/X pipe

Went to see about getting a custom H pipe made up and the mechanic right away said I would lose 10 hp by getting rid of the stock H/X. That didn't seem right to me but wanted everyone's opinion.

Stock H/X pipe

You will lose a few HP by ditching the hybrid pipe that comes stock and going with the H pipe.

How many HP you'll lose is tough to say though.

Ummmm you need to do more research. You gain HP and tq getting a catless h pipe or x pipe. It is a big improvement performance wise.

^^ The shape affects the scavenging. ITs a 3-5 whp difference at best on a 5.0, it will be negligible on a 3.7, get the H-pipe so it sounds better.

Now, if you were going in wanting like a true - dual exhaust with no cross over pipe, i could see that causing issues, but that dude was just pulling a number out of his ***.

This is one of the best setups I've ever heard. Skip to 0:55 to hear a couple of revs.

Mufflers tame it down a lot. Remember an exhaust is always louder under load. Idle and revs while sitting are much softer than under hard acceleration

Actually that is ajcruz's h pipe. Any views on the design? I actually have it sitting in my garage but didn't like the welds.

I have the ford racing x on mine... it mellowed out the sound and a touch deeper no real changes in seat of the pants but none were expected.

Wait, so if removing the stock midpipe causes power loss, would it not be worth getting the Ford Racing Cut and Clamp X Pipe? :/

plus makes the exhaust sound like raspy poo and in states with emissions makes you illegal.

I had a Catless H pipe from lethal performance and took it off the next because it sounded like crap in my opinion. Some resonaters might of helped out but I just sold it because I live in California anyway so passing emissions is what I need

We added 2 sets of resonators to my Fiance's car after adding the H pipe, 2 in the H pipe itself and 2 in the over axle pipes. It ... "helps," but its still not great. I honestly like it at low throttle and WOT, but theres that spot right around 3500 at part throttle where its pretty bad

That's why you get the catless and weld in resonators. Resonators are 22$ a piece.

That is the exact H-pipe I wanted them to fabricate for me (ajcruz's). I couldn't find a better sounding exhaust setup on our 3.7's so I wanted to mimic his (leaving the cats and stock resonators).

Thanks for all the responses.

Xpipes actually make more power than hpipes at higher rpms.

See this thread on the explanation of x,h, and y pipes: http://www.americanmuscle.com/mustan...s-x-pipes.html

I gotcha. I asked Bama if the Ford Cut and Clamp X Pipe was worth datalogging or requesting a new tune for, and they said no. With stock cats, it adds 0 performance. So this part seems worthless to me unless you are putting highflow cats or deleting the cats.

His was bbk shorty ceramic headers, custom h that I posted above, and Borla stypes out back.
I have the same setup but stock h/x and I have his custom h but I'm debating about having another made or cleaning up the welds and re welding it.

I don't need to do a smog test until 2017 I believe. When you buy a new car here you don't need to do a smog test for 5 years. Plus it's not too hard to swap out either but I didn't like how it sounded which was the major reason why I sold it.

Talked to a couple of muffler shops and they took a look at it and said the only thing they could do is weld over it to clean it up. They also must have thought my car was a GT initially because they said that it looked like really small piping. Its 2.25". At this point I'm debating about selling it to recoup the price but shipping will eat most of it. TBH welds do look kinda sketch on it but I was told it doesn't leak. I've also read that our stock x/h is 2.5" so idk if it will be worse for performance.

Stock piping on the V6 is 2.25" The hybrid piping might be 2.5" on the inside but as long as your matched to the size you should be fine. Is the entire H pipe 2.25" or just the connecting H part?

The stock piping is 2.25 and if you upgrade to an aftermarket piece it will be 2.5 the hybrid is 2.25 and the resonators before the hybrid pipe is 1.75 on the inside. Do yourself a favor and ditch the stock cats and hybrid pipe. Way too restrictive
