Ah, my bad. I see you posted you had the 8" ones earlier.

235 on the 8" is fine. You could even go up to 245 if you wanted to on the 8".

what is the widest tire on stock rims

My car is a 2012 V6 Premium. Is there an easy way to tell what width wheels I have while still on the car with tires mounted. I bent an electrical wire across the inside of the wheel from outer lip edge to outer lip edge and then measured the distance between and came up just over 8". Could I have 8" inch wheels? Right now I have 215/65/17 tires. The following pictures show how they fit. Not sure if that helps. They are the painted wheels, not the plain unpainted ones. Not sure if that means anything either.

UPDATE:
I see one on eBay. It looks like it is stamped on the backside. I will crawl under there again with a flashlight and see if I can see it.

Thanks. I just updated my post while you were responding. I see one on eBay and there is a size stamping on the backside. I will crawl under there with a flashlight and take another look. If it is 7", looks like 225 would be the widest I would probably want to go. Thanks again!

Are there any good performance all-season replacement tires to run on the stock 17 inch rims besides the Bf goodrich TA spec (original factory tire on the manual v6 models)? Mine will probably need to be replaced later this year.

I checked with BFGoodrich and they said the 235 may rub lock to lock and recommended
235/55/17. Which btw is what American Muscle recommends. But then I'd need to have the speedo recalibrated. I wonder if Ford would do that.

And what the heck could they possibly rub on if only 3/4 of an inch wider at nearly the same height.

Yeah, I know when I went from the stock 215/65/17 to 235/50/18 I had to install the steering rack stops because I did rub on full lock.

Super easy and super cheap. Not bad at all.

Thanks for the info. I'm sticking with 225/60/17 then. I kind of like my turning radius. Turns tighter than my old PT Cruiser.

I'm looking for new tires right now as well. American Muscle has the 235 55 17 listed for the stock 17" wheels, but every other site has 225 60 17 recommended and doesn't even have the 235 as an option. I would love to run the 235 because there are so many better options in that size than 225.

I have the 225 60 and will replace them with the 235 55 if I don't find a set of 18 or 19 oem take offs first The 235 55 give the 17 inch wheels a little more profile and width plus with me having 2.73 gears it might bump me to 2.90 lol

Can you post pics of your 225s with a full view of the entire car from the back, and then a pic of the rear tire from the side and also angled so we can get a feel of what they look like? Thanks!
