Painted my calipers

I know there is a lot of talk about calipers. Pay a ton for caliper covers, paint them yourself or just leave them alone. I painted them on my old mustang before it got wrecked so I figured I have to do it again with this one. It took me an entire day because I took my time and put on 3 coats. Cost about 25$ total so about 6$ a caliper and came out great. I also cleaned my disks, calipers, hoses, and inside of wheelwells and rims. It's pretty simple and easy, just need some time and patience. Pics attached. Click image for larger version

Looks great. To me, this is a cheap easy mod with a lot of impact.

I'm doing mine too. I'm upgrading to Brembos so I took them apart for a proper painting. I used the Duplicolor kit and I find it works best with an airbrush gun. I know on the car it's tough, but off the car it's easy and looks great. The paint consistency is perfect for airbrushing.

Looks great! Did you have any trouble by not taking the calipers off? I will be painting mine satin black soon

Outstanding job! I did mine in red some months back but I didn't do the 110% job you did. I only painted the visible portions you could see through the rim.

Okay awesome! I just ordered the brush kit as well. I have black caliper covers on right now, which was fine for 18" wheels. But with my 20" wheels it looks kind of tacky with the silver caliper showing. So I'm going to paint it so it blends better.

Key is just to take your time and do it right. Take the rim off, clean the calipers so the paint sticks, and carefully paint it. 👍

First let me say that you did a quality job and they are painted really nice. These next few comments just remember are my opinion as a middle age man and may not apply to a lot of you.
Why paint base model, non Brembo, small brakes any color that is bright and calls attention to them? I have seen some beautiful large, vented, slotted rotors and massive multi piston calipers that are factory bright red and I get it. They look impressive already and calling more attention to them is understandable. They say," I have massive stopping power".
But to me, the painted tiny base brakes is "rice" and I apologize for the term and I'm not calling your car rice. The same goes for bright red caliper covers. Everyone knows they're fake. They all have fake Allen bolts all over them and the covers are way to large for the rotors they're next to. It reminds me of a Autozone or Walmart quality mod.
I grew up in an era when only extremely expensive cars and more rare sports cars had red brakes and they were visually appealing.
Here's some brakes I totally understand being bright and would want people to notice.

Different strokes for different folks. There can be negative things said about those expensive brakes that have been designed to exaggerate their appearance in addition to their enhanced performance. But why bother?
I think the painted brakes is a great mod, if for nothing else but to cover that OEM finish. Thinking of doing mine soon. (No real use for the flashy Brembos.)

I'm not a huge fan of the caliper covers but not because they look fake just because they too damn expensive if it was about fake most of the mustangs exterior stick on mods are fake and they don't bother me or look Rice to me they make the car look good even if they are fake (hood scoops, side scoops, louvers)....

Could you post a link for the brush kit please? I have the spray can but would rather use a brush.

I got a nice kit at auto zone for $20. Comes with the red paint, caliper cleaner, brush, and masking tape. I just needed to buy a wire brush to clean the calipers.

Invest in a decent brush as well. the one in the kit sucks. They fall apart after a very short time. Id get 2, one for the bigger areas and then a small one for the tight spots.

Thanks, on my way to pick up the kit now and I'll also pick up a couple extra brushes just in case. Thumbs!

What all did you have to buy in order to paint the calipers? Looks great! I've been wanting to do a grabber green/lime green for my calipers.

I painted the stock calipers of a resto project I'm working on...but I painted them black to draw as little attention to them as possible...LOL.

Looks good!.. Smart to put on multiple coats. I painted mine black and they started pealing a few months later. I'm not really sure what caused the pealing, but I just touch it up with a little paint every now and then.

I tried to go for a candy look when I did mine. Used a high heat primer then silver base and a clear red top coat. So far it has held up, and I like it.

Yeah I really like that, I just don't like the idea of spray, but that does look good
