I wonder how well it would hold up being that it's foam? Now, in theory, it seems like someone with the right equipment and know how could make a mold of the factory intake manifold and make their own cover out of fiberglass. I don't know how this would affect performance or if it would damage the motor. It just seems like there's lots of manifolds floating about now that they're being ported and it wouldn't require too much investment to make a cover.

Then again, I'm sure the pattern of fins on the IM exists for a reason and maybe they shouldn't be covered...

I am aware the 5.0 engine looks better. I wish I had one, don't we all? nd yes you helped describe the painting process. I didn't want to just do it and take a risk.

Could you post a pic of it?? I'm curious how it looks.

I'm also not a huge fan of the engine cover, but it does make things look marginally nicer because it covers up our ugly intake manifold.

The intake manifold is a pain to clean because of all of its nooks and corners.

You could always buy a sheetmetal intake

What do you mean, the engine cover is plastic, no? I'm just talking about painting it something other than its crappy blackish/grey, maybe to match the intake.

You got that right sir. The 3.7 intake manifold is a PITA to clean with it being chopped up in small little rectangular pieces. Would of been just fine if there wasn't plastic chopping it up all over the place.

OP, respectfully I would not paint or airbrush our 3.7 intake manifold. I am not a fan of that painted red one. I would leave the intake manifold alone and focus efforts on the other areas of the engine bay. πŸ‘

Just my 2 cents and trying to be helpful sir.

Have a great day!

I had moved past the painting. The OP said he didn't like the factory cover option. I was suggesting that it's possible to make a new one if you wanted.

That doesn't look too bad to be honest but I agree with not having the blue on there.

I'm sure it does, but the over spray from the poor or lack of masking on the blue just kills it. It turns something with potential to something that looks messy and amateur.

The silver looks great though.

I guess I should throw my update out there. I'm getting everything hydrodipped in Carbon fiber and the fuse box cover getting a pony over the carbon fiber. The manifold will be done according to whether I think it'll look good after the other parts are done.

That looks good fast ford. I see the intake is still hard to clean, looks like you have some dirt in those stupid little nooks.

Q-tips work somewhat well

What would really look cool if you're feeling frisky is replacing those push-lock PCV lines with some anodized AN fittings and a braided line (either steel or nylon).

Tried that, it sucks. I just use a microfiber towel. I clean the engine bay every time I wash the car. The IM has only been dusty one time between washes when I popped the hood. Not looking forward to the monsoon season though.

I believe the cost is by the size of the piece you want dippped. My co worker does hydro dipping and we got talking about it.

thats not terrible... the bigger the part the more it costs, the odder the shape the more it costs... my guy had trouble with the intake because of all the ridges

FastFord your engine bay looks great, what did you use to paint the valve covers?

Also the ingot silver one looks nice minus the horrible blue overspray.

So I decided to do the radiator cover, fuse box and intake myself, hopefully this works. Doing a lot of research on hydro dipping. I'm going with a black base coat and silver carbon fiber film.
