Painting the Manifold/engine dress up

Hey guys, So i was at a show and wouldve taken 1st if not for my engine bay. My 2012 3.7 is performance white. Im looking to do an LPF Turbo kit powder coated white but thats in a year or two. But now im going with a red throttle body spacer and a chrome intake. like I have about 3 things left to do on the exterior appearance now but I need to work on my engine bay. There's not a whole lot of information about this so i was wondering if anyone has taken the 3.7 manifold off and painted or Hydrodipped or Whatever to it? Pics would be appreciated!

I've never seen anyone with a painted 3.7 manifold. It could be done with some high temp paint I think.

They make an engine cover for the 3.7 though

Even then, isn't it plastic? So without proper prep, it might not hold up very well.

If you paint it just make sure you clean it very good and sand any texture you don't want to see away, hit it with an adhesion promoter, then some good primer. Then paint away. If you do it right you won't have to worry about durability. Also, no need to use high temp paint in my opinion. I can't imagine the IM get hot enough for all that.

I dunno man, that engine bay can get pretty hot. I wouldn't want to rest my hand on that manifold at operating temperature.

You can also use a high temp primer, then paint with regular paint if you were worried about it.

Maybe if it were painted like a metallic silver it could look nice?

A wire tucked engine bay with a stock engine will look far better than a cluttered one with a ton of stuff painted. Try and relocate some things and hide a few hoses. Makes a big difference.

Chrome would look better instead of red, and add the 3.7 engine cover too.

Well thanks everyone but I'm just throwing this out there, the engine cover they do make, I believe looks quite atrocious. But that's IMO

I have, it looks sick.
A local guy (southerncyclone) has his IM hydrodipped, and it looks killer as well

1. Avoid that throttle body spacer unless you care more about show than go

2. There is a rather large coolant jacket that runs through the lower intake manifold, so depending on how much heat transfers to the upper manifold, i would imagine it can get quite hot. However, high temp paint is cheap and easy, ask anyone who has painted a valve cover. You just have to take steps to do it right.

3. I agree that a wire tuck will go further than some random shiny bits that look out of place. I view it like Carbon fiber; if you have a fair bit of carbon, say the trunk / wing, some on the hood, maybe a diffuser .... enough to make it a theme then it can look nice. If you have just one carbon fiber thing however, it looks gaudy and out of place. The flip side is too much carbon fiber looks gaudy and out of place too ... there is a very fine line between too much of something and not enough.

Start with just cleaning up what you have and making it look "clean." Maybe add a nice firewall mounted catch can for some easy curb appeal (as well as serving a purpose). Maybe get the Plastic valve covers painted, something nice like the Ford Racing blue on the Boss. I personally am a fan of a clean less-is-more approach.

Depending on your mechanical prowess as well, cleaning up vacuum lines with a vacuum block can work wonders as well:

My first impression was open heart surgery, it looks kinda gruesome. I think any color but red if you have to do it at all. Like the idea of the wire tuck, I think I'll look into that.

I honestly don't think the black intake manifold looks bad. Kind of goes with the engine cover.

The engine cover and some wire clean up would make the engine bay look alot better. If you want functional flash, maybe hood struts to delete the prop rod, and a Oil Catch Can.

My atrocious really ugly engine cover-

I know it looks bad but My Mustang did win two different peoples choice awards and a "GOLD" daily drivers award and a $100.00 gift certificate at different shows. It would have done better if the engine was not so atrocious and hard to look at.

I feel all it lacks, if anything, is consistency. The manifold and cover are both "black," however they're different shades. Maybe just some sort of coherence if anything.

OP, forget painting the manifold. Go with something wicked looking in the engine bay. Just had this done to my engine bay this past week. My radiator cover and strut tower brace.

Have a great day!

I'm a fan of a clean "wet" looking engine bay. Think "everything has a coat of Armor All" shiny.

I am jealous of the coyote engines looks. This is my buddy's black and green 5.0.

As I previously stated 1. This is for the 3.7 L and 2. I DON'T like the one and only engine cover that is posted above. But thank you Kona and Eric for actually addressing my post. Im thinking painting red white and blue like the pony emblem. Either that or a purple and making the whole dress-up purple.

1. And all I said is I am jealous of the 5.0's looks.

2. Anyone planning to add a chrome intake tube doesn't get to use the word "atrocious" in reference to someone else's engine bay.

My thread, I get to post what I want bud. I want definite pictures that's all. I could see this moving to everyone's engine bays which isn't what I want. I want pictures of my specific manifold painted.m but good try to insult me.

I love the look of the 5.0 also, i wish us 3.7 guys had another option other than the OEM blacky/grey looking cover myself. Maybe if it was at least the same color black as the intake manifold.

Yea. The GTs get all the goodies and us V6 people get whatever bones the vendors want to throw to us. I guess it is also an investment on their part. Not many feel the V6 is worth it.

I thought I helped when I gave some how to on painting but I guess not. I also think the posted 5.0 engine was just to show how something can be done tastefully. We were all trying to help you. Sounds like you don't need any help since you have it all figured out though.
