Found this one so he might have ordered the 7.5 ring gear for 05 to 10 and not the 8.8.

If you look at this link on LMR, Ford started using the beefier GT500 inner pinion bearing in 2011-2014 V6 models with the 8.8" rear end: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...aring-And-Race. I'm betting this is what confused the OP's mechanic.

All that said, if you have the right parts, a good shop should be able to do a gear swap in a day. The mechanic that rebuilt my rear end to remediate dealer-botched service had to keep it for two days, as the install kit I got from LMR included the wrong size axle bearings.

Thanks tym this is exactly what happened for me it's not the mechanics fault it's the parts people or the package had different axle bearings. He got the culprit now and ordered the right bearings. Now since the bearings are different do you think my 373 ring and pinion are also for 2005 to 2010 or are they all the same for 2011 to 2014? Thanks tym

Yeah i even told him that I can come back next week to finish it but he insist that he will finish it tomorrow he has done this for 30 years that he never had a mismatch parts from his local supplier. I sure hope that they will pay him his hours for this installation from yesterday. He assured me that my fee is still the same and gave a ride with one of his worker.

parts houses will never pay for labor back unless you really fight them to do so.

I was also thinking that he may have ordered them for the 7.5, but that doesn't make sense because the ring and pinion would be for a 7.5 as well.

It was a mismatched parts he got the 8.8 ring and pinion just the bearings that is different. This is why he spent almost the whole day trying putting it in cos he thought it was all 8.8 bearings until he tried putting back my stock gears and found out that the bearings is smaller than my stock bearings.

I don't think he will get reimbursed from the parts store but I sure hope he won't be getting his parts there anymore.

Just an update called the shop this morning and they said they got the right bearings now for 8.8 and it will be ready in a couple of hours. Wohooo.. Told them they can test drive the car to make everything is good and howl or whine noise.. Knock on wood don't wanna jinx myself.

If they test drive it, make sure they test it from 0-60. Not just 0-30 and assume its ok.

^ And also check for whine on acceleration and deceleration. A tiny bit of decel whine is OK (especially if you have any poly bushings in the rear suspension), but accel whine is no bueno as it would mean the gears weren't set up right.

Very happy no whine at all... The only thing is I'm not impress with the new tune, I didn't drive it too hard so I might just give it some time, I like the my old tune but of course I can't use since my speedo will be off.

Thats what i was gonna say. Some tuners even say to drive 40-50 miles after loading a tune before driving aggressive. So the car can relearn everything.

Okay I will do that.. So far so good. Just got home drove city and hi way. I will give it another few miles and maybe once it's broken in I will do another data log.

So far 50 miles since the gear change.. Funny thing though my last data log tune with my 331 right from the bat it was a rocket ship. I will try to use that tune and change the settings to 373 and will see if it makes a different. Do you think I can change it?

You should be okay... If your transmission acts funny, just switch back, but the programmer should tune it for that.

Hmmm Yeah I'll just stick with this tune for now you're making me nervous about the transmission acting funny lol.. Let me ask you this though is there really a lot of adjustments when it comes to gears for a tune from my old tune?

Speedo is the biggest one, sometimes it really depends on the tuner themselves, the regular plug and play tunes all you do is plug it in and go

I thought I shared this to you guys so I asked for my stock 331 gears back and my shop put it back to where my 373 gears box. I checked the box when I got home just for the heck of it and Walaa he did order the right year gear for my stang as you look closely it is for 8.8 gear ring and pinion and bearings. This lead me to say that Ford racing sometimes mismatch there item so my conclusion is for those people that has the gear whine it might be spesifucally for 3.7 that they had mismatch bearings and my shop was smart enough to know it. I'm not saying all of them but it could happen. Just saying guys.. For those who orders online check your bearings if you got the right or else you will get the gear whine..

I don't think whine would come from bearings, but rather from improper setup of the gears (wrong pinion depth, improper shimming, etc.). If the bearing were wrong, the parts likely wouldn't go together without a problem being obvious. Even if they did, the bearings would presumably wear out quickly, and the noise a bad roller bearing makes is more of a rumble than a whine.

Thats why you guys are awesome you know what you're talking about learn something everyday..
